Given that FC usually has a few players on the bench even when they don't have guests, I guess this means some reduced playing time for some of the FC players. Depending upon who they are, this could push FC into being the favorite to win it.

This is the most ridiculous thing ... Really??? You don't know jack squat about high level youth soccer.

So what you are saying is that you are only a good team if you have regularly had guest players play for your team in tournaments.

I disagree. We've never had any guest players either and our team is a "high level" team for Oregon.

Yes I agree. I think with guest players FC is a favorite to win. I think we'll see an FC-VT Red final.

Always an interesting dynamic with guest players. Guests are great when you have say 9-12 players and you need a few to get to 13-14 players so that you have enough for the tournament. But they are not so great when you start with 13 and end up with 15-17 with the guest players.

I guess if your DD gets less time than a guest, or if she is a starter but a guest gets her starting position, it can tell you where you stand in your coaches eyes. I've seen parents show up to tournaments all happy and excited because they have some guest players only to see that happiness wash away when the game starts and their DD, who is normally a starter, is on the bench.

Guest players on high level teams is generally more a factor of recruitment than needing players. This is something that is truly needed at the older age groups and....

I challenge anyone on here to name a high level comptetive club that does not invite guest players. Either your entire team dynamic is about to change... because you can't attract older players to your team or your player is so young that you don't get it yet.

Absolute bull dung from very naive parents.

What age groups are you talking about? U16 and up?

Yes. Really good teams fall apart at this age group. Most good teams won't take guest players unless they believe the player has or might have some interest in the team in the future. It is a good way for the team to preview the player and for the player to experience the dynamics of the team. This should begin around U15. Things change a lot at the older age groups.

Whoa there Mr. Mature Soccer Parent who knows more than anyone and is willing to tell them that at every opportunity. No need to be condescending about everything.

I think what people are saying is that there are some team(s) that haven't had guest players. They've gone to tournaments and played with the hand that got them there. Now given that these may not have been college showcases (and even if they were, up until now most college coaches weren't there to see these young players) the team(s) were more worried about seeing how their team plays in these tournaments.

And, I think at this age group most teams have only had guests to help fill in for missing players or, as is occurring right now, as a way to tryout a team (and vice versa). The recent "Thusc" team that went to Albion is an exception (and don't know if they told the weak players to stay home or the weak players gave the team a gift by planning their family vacations during this time frame and allowed them to pick up stronger players from out of state).

Going forward, we may see this all change and that is fine. How it gets handled politically is up to the coach. "Sorry, your fine for OPL, but when we go to SoCal, we need someone better than you." I would doubt that will happen for a local tournment, certainly it wouldn't (I would think) for Nike Cup or Clash or Addidas or Chinook or .... After all, there are no colleges there so winning is a matter of pride and I'd rather win it or lose it with our regular team. So just because this hasn't happened for some teams yet, it doesn't mean it won't in the near future. Ummmkayy? Have I fed your overinflated soccer ego enough? You can now feel safe to continue to troll the sidelines of practice/games knowing that you are the soccer authority on your team.

And you can bash other teams for inviting guest while your team falls apart...

I do understand that most parents at this age group are only beginning to see the guest player phase of youth soccer. Before this age, guest players are generally brought in to augment for the purpose of a win or to simply field a entire team.

Who is bashing other teams? And what team is falling apart? What delusional world do you live in that you think you know who is associated with what teams and what is going on with those teams? Do you even have a daughter at this age? From the sound of it, you don't. You seem to have an older one and you think that gives you license to tell everyone within earshot a lesson on how the soccer world operates. You're making a heck of a lot of assumptions.
