This is a great opportunity for players to be out from under the watchful eye of their parents. They are only a few years away from being on their own and while we parents are cherishing these days it's an opportunity for the kids to learn how to behave and act knowing that their parents are not there to judge them or offer guidance.
I just wanted to know if I could go watch my kids play. What do you dumb cows think because I have read everything posted so far and the stupidity is amazing. Tell me so we can continue this do loop.

So, I just wanted to know if I can see my kids play. They need me, but not that much. Do you think I can see them. Should I go up to the coach and ask them why they are not putting my dd in the forward postion. What do you cows think. You are so smart about these kind of things and I do not know how to tie my shoes.

My dd is a heffer. I am worried she is not going to be fed enough. Do you think I should send her with a suitcase of food? If this question has already been covered by the cows, do not respond. I will just send some boxes of doughnuts with my daughter. She gets hungry at night. She is a big eater.

So should I go over? Some dumb cow said I would have to hide so the coaches do not penalized my child. I doubt it has anything to do with her lack of skill that prevents her from making regional camp. It is because I am over there and saying hi to her. Some smar cow told me not to go, send a suit case of food and to hide if I do go over. She is smart and I do not have a brain. My dd take after me, but boy can she eat. I expect her to eat all of her food and the suitcase.

              98 ODP Regional Camp Roster

Is this based on the most skilled players from the top of the list to the bottom?
Seems to me physical athleticism weighs more than skills/technique.

This is just my opinion but in general skills and technique can be learned while some traits such as general athleticism, aggression and so forth are either there or not.

True, but that's not what the poster asked.

It has always been known that the biggest/tallest players for any position are chosen first. History repeats itself over and over with Oregon ODP

It does seem as though the 98's value size vs. skills. IMHO, this will go nowhere in the long run. The other posters say that skills will come in time, but that 's not necessarily true. Just watch the way the 98s have played. Not real soccer.

Yes this happened again this year. It's also coach preference. The 97's are not all about size.

I don't understand why this is the case with ODP.

This is what you see on all the top girl teams around the country. Survey the top teams at USYS Regionals & Surf and you will see a majority are bigger and or stronger for their age group on balance. Look up to the D1 colleges particularly the PAC and you will see Stanford has few small players.

Even the shorter Japanese national team players were stout.

My DD is short but is a tank. She is always the shortest on just about every team Club, ODP State, ODP Regional and definitely at the national camp. I always worried that she would not continue to progress because of her size and the US's obvious bias towards larger players. As she has grown through the years and I have watched I sort of get it. There are some highly skilled smaller statue players that simply get pushed aside so that there skill is basically nullified. In order to be a smaller player and play at the next level you must not only be skilled but also scrappy, strong, aggressive and fast. If you are tall or larger then you don't have to be as skilled to get chosen.. you basically go over people and if you are located in the right place then it works. After watching some of our club players with amazing footskills get trampled, left in the dust or knocked over all the time I can sort of see the reasoning. I am not saying it is right but it is what it is and there is a different criterion for the smaller player.
