Noticed on the FC website that they are only taking 23 boys from tryouts where the the girls took 34.......was there a small showing at tryouts? The 10's look short too.

I hope this isn't a trend because FC was competitive this year.
FC will struggle at the younger ages. 1 U10 team and 1 U11 team. This is not healthy for FC.

Wow, that is actually shocking. It sounds like the Timbers alliance clubs are growing a ton especially w the Boys at the younger ages. I just wonder if this is the trend? Younger players are thinking why start with a club that is not affiliated with the Timbers?

No one cares about the Timbers affiliation. It comes down to quality coaching. Westside will always get players because of the trend. The tide will turn. Parents will realize that WST do not have quality coaching. They will eventually move on because of the scholarships there, and also that WST use the kids as pawns instead of human beings. I call BS on the Timbers affiliation.

Nothing could be better for soccer, then the Timbers being the only club in town... They will be the only teams in the area and will have to play with themselves....

I'm actually in the Timbers Alliance in one of the 3 clubs and I am wondering the same thing. The last thing I want is 3 clubs playing against each other. Things are moving quickly and I don't know what to think anymore. If FC has 1 U10 and 1 U11 Boys, the poster states this can't be healthy for FC. I wonder more and more - is this healthy for Oregon?

I guess on the flip side, Washington has 2 superclubs (Crossfire and WP) and it seems to work ok. Maybe it can work.

Heck, why have three... from what I have seen VUSA will be the place to be, largest numbers... the best talent will migrate there... WST and EST will become 'select' feeder clubs. The VUSA team will be able to compete with the 'crossfires' and the like. The OPL will become a glorified Rec. league. I guess it will be fun to come on here and watch the squabbling over who's dd or ds team is better, when in reality they will all suck.

One should be careful what you wish for.

Contributors to this thread want to know your sons choice! I hope he had a great tryout experience.

Eastside beat OSA in the finals of Directors cup both went undefeated last Fall season for U10. Eastside merged with fireballs team and looks to be the top of the upcoming age group for U11. Riverplate fell off as OSA beat them handily to make finals. Should be a great upcoming year.

I remember the Eastside team being very good. I am remember the Riverplate team being up and down, mostly up. They could beat anyone on a good day. OSA was strong throughout. I don't really remember the Fireballs so much, I do vaguely. Have they always been from Eastside? How did they finish in Director's cup. Does the Eastside team get a lot better with the merge of the teams?

Are there any open spots on the premiere team at OSA? How many boys are on the team?

Well if your son is a superstar any team will find a spot for him. With the top teams at the best clubs usually they are looking for a top 10 player on the team to fill-in any spots at this point. Top teams do not want to add a player just to add a player, I realize they are kids, but that is the reality of it. If not they would be on the "B" team and work way up to "A" team. Fairly common.

                            U10 rankings

Here were the U10 rankings as of last year:

                            1. Eastside
                            2. OSA
                            3. Fireballs (was independent now with Eastside)
                            4. Riverplate
                            5. Westside
                            6. WSA
                            7. THUSC
                            8. LO
                            9. FC Portland

Eastside the class of the group, a drop off after 4 as Westside was good but never could beat the top teams, huge drop off after them compared to the top. Could all change for u11 but probably pretty similar.

I guess the question will be did Eastside get a lot better with the Fireballs coming over. Or was that Eastside team just so good that they really had no holes to fill, therefore staying about the same or just a little better. I imagine they got at least a little better. That's scary.

At U11, players and teams do somewhat come out of hiding a bit. Rec players that had never considered advanced competition show up here and there that make teams better. The other team(s) that are not represented here is VUSA. I heard they had enough players to make like 5 or 6 teams. What I don't know is whether they are teams of equal status or did they make A, B, ... I think they will be competing in OPL this year, but if the teams are equal you won't see their best team in Premier. Another unknown will be WSA. Word on the street is that they took the best of WSA, some of the best of VUSA, and some of the best of SC to make a really strong team. If so, they could move up.
