The sad fact is that most of us have very little choice about who coaches our kids. On average, there might be 2 good teams within driving distance. You have to choose between those teams based on a variety of factors, and coaching license is one of those, but not as high as which team will have better players, how good is the club support, what is the record of that coach, how much does the club cost, etc.

Not many of us had the luxury of a lot of good choices. We are not in Seattle or even Portland.
If you are in the market for playing at the highest level then......

The most important factor is to look at the older teams...where are they at U15 and up?
Is the club getting their older players exposure at Showcase Tourney's etc......

You'll always see smaller clubs do well at young ages as far as results are concerned and this is usually because parents don't know any better. An example would be FCSC - they always have some decent teams at the younger age groups but never have any teams from u15 and up.

Agreed. If you are shooting for college scholarship exposure, then you are stuck with whatever VT feeds you or you drive across the river.

And VT has done such a poor job of getting players into college...only about 120+ players

        lol

Where did you get that number, and what is the number per year (that's more impressive). 120 players sounds pretty good but are these players who got full scholarships at D1 schools as a direct result of exposure from games with Timbers? Or are these kids that got a partial scholarship that maybe once played with the Timbers (maybe before moving to THUSC or WP)?

I never said a degree wasn't important, I said as long as they have the minimum degree there are many, many other items that are more important. If you have trouble with this, let me know and I will put it in simpler terms. I won't argue over your poor decision making at your company, just make sure and don't put too much effort into it when I interview you.

The point of the post was about putting too much emphasis on coaching licenses. They should be a small, very small indicator as to whether a coach should be selected or a parent should choose that particular team/club. My statement is still true that a license doesn't make a coach as I have achieved multiple licenses and they certainly don't make a coach more qualified but they can be an indicator. I have seen many coaches with licenses who are fantastic and I have also seen those with an A license who are absolutely terrible and my daughter wouldn't play for them if this was in Stevenson and the only team.
Holy hell I'm not sure you actually have reading comprehension skills. Your responses don't even match the conversation. Maybe go back and re-read it slower. Have your wife read it to you. I may choose to respond again if you can muster up some relevant response. Good grief, the morons on these boards never cease to amaze me.

Good response. Why don't you just answer the question? Does degree trump the other items I mentioned? Like another poster said, the degree keeps the resume in the game, the person/experience lands them the job.

Just like in coaching (sorry, trying to make a link here for you), the license might be a minimum requirement (let's say D just for grins) but the other aspect of the coach are much, much more important. His/her style, committment, ethics (or lack thereof), playing experience, etc.

I was trying to link the hiring in the real world to coaching licenses, if that doesn't make sense to you then, well, maybe we should go another route.

Just to clarify for the uneducated....USSF and NSCAA licensing is based on progression....

For example....the USSF National "D" would be for coaches at the U10-U14 ages. And for those of you that think getting something like a "D" or a "C" is easy I would suggest applying for it...........most fail. At my National "D" Course there were 28 coaches.....and a wide range of experience from playing only HS to playing College leve.....only three passed and received their National D. The licenses are no joke.......eight day course and playing for 45-50 hours is no easy task

Does anyone know if we have to buy new uniforms after only one year in as the name has now changed from Vancouver Timbers to Washington Timbers?

Every kid that can pay premier fees makes a team. Might be the "H" team but it's a "Timbers" team :)
