Does Gary know that this will be a deal killer in the merger?

Is there a chance the Gary doesn't care if the merger happens?

Is he just not smart enough to know that parents DO NOT want their child anywhere near Victor for appropriate reasons?

Forget the WYS rules....this guy shouldn't be coaching kids let alone girls!
This is silly ..... If this alone is a deal killer then the merger was not meant to happen. If VUSA parents can't see the greater value of merging the two clubs it shouldn't happen.
Victor can be dealt with later if he is a continuing issue.
I'm not sure all of VUSA knows or cares about this to sabotage the merger.
If it's a no vote .... on to ESUFC for WSA and at the expense of the new Vancouver Timbers. VUSA teams / parents / Coaches are the deciding factor now .... I hope they see the greater picture.

I hope the VUSA members see the bigger picture too...

VUSA members didn't see the big picture last year though...
Gary O was a huge factor in it failing...many families came over to VUSA because of him....when they caught wind that he was involved in the original merger and that he would be incharge of certain age groups that the families were involved the merger got canned!

Do you really think Victor should be coaching 12 yr old girls?

Are you blind to Victors past?

Do you just ignore his past issues?

Victor has problems almost every year!

he is a slow killing cancer and nothing else.

Gary needs to merger period. Unfortunately he doesn't think before he acts. Victor will not be allowed to associated with VUSA for any reason. Gary knows this but is banking on the idea that noone notices.

Says the guy with no standards. Its ok, we know you sold out a long time ago. Its unfortunate that you've been used to kid biters (Victor) or poor standards of coaching (Gary) at WSA. I would just hope that VUSA doesn't get shallow like you to see "the bigger picture". A good reputation is something you wouldn't understand and it clearly shows with your ignorance to standards. G.O. figure.

Both WSA and VUSA boards have communicated to their members that the issues of the past are in fact the past, and that they recommend the deal go through. The coaches for VUSA met with their board (lengthy q & a) and voted in favor of the merger with a vote of 49 for, and 3 abstain (I believe, that's from memory). They even stated that this is all they needed to approve the merger but out of courtesy they are allowing the teams of VUSA to vote since it has always been a players club. Actually, I'm not sure I really understand why it is going to the teams for a vote since the coaches already voted yes for their teams, but that is what was communicated.

In any case, assuming this goes through, I think this is good for the kids, and that is what we all should care about. I don't know much about the inner workings of FCSC or Pacific but I know they have at least a couple teams each that are extremely competitive. I personally think that WSA is then a bit stronger and VUSA is the strongest. Just my opinion, I understand that. It is possible for a newly merged club to thrive but also for the Pacific and FCSC to thrive. In the end, kids should have an opportunity to play the game, the beautiful game that we all know and love or we wouldn't be posting here in the first place. A combined VUSA/WSA gives the combined clubs a membership of nearly 4000 (rec/select/premier). Communicated by the boards, is that studies have been done showing 4000 members near ideal for $ efficiencies, strength of club, and so on. A combined club improves field uses and opportunities. The Portland Timbers Alliance supports the merger, and why wouldn't they?. A combined club improves the quality of the Premier teams and creates an even better pyramid for kids to grow, if they desire. Hopefully, the combined Premier teams can embed themselves routinely in RCL Div 1 and compete against the top clubs in Oregon as well if teams go OPL. I currently know of at least 2 Vancouver families that drive all the way to Seattle to play for Crossfire. We need to keep those kids home, playing for SW Wash. FCSC and Pacific can then continue to keep soccer in proximity to the Salmon Creek and Battleground locations. This will allow those kids the opportunity to play the beautiful game and develop local to home. Or, if players want to explore top level premier soccer they can move over to the newly combined club. If top premier teams from FCSC or Pacific want to stay together with the smaller clubs, they can. But it would not be the norm.

In the end, I think the clubs can co-exist. But a merged VUSA/WSA, if run correctly, can up the stakes in SW Wa and give the opportunites to the kids that do not exist standing alone.

Very well said. Thank you for your articulate thoughts.
There has been a lot of petty discussion which detracts from the larger picture. If we all can let go of that and focus on making things better the kids will win. After all that's why it's called YOUTH SOCCER.

Thought I heard on the radio that they were coming out with a FANTASY YOUTH SOCCER LEAGUE for the parents. Can't wait.

                            Good post

Nice post about WSA and VUSA! I wonder what this means " If top premier teams from FCSC or Pacific want to stay together with the smaller clubs, they can. But it would not be the norm. "

Do you imply that it would be more normal to move to WSA/VUSA? How exactly does the merger make this more normal? It seems to me that it is the norm to stick with what you have, if it's working for you and to NOT switch. Unless there is some outstanding impetus to move.

Why would a successful team from Pacific switch? At Pacific, the team could stay together, not get talked into being on a less successful "B Premier" team, and....

only pay $80 versus paying $1100 at VUSA!!!!!

There are a lot of things that I could do with my son with the extra $1020 that I save each year. Heck, he can have his own scholarship fund ($1020 x 8 years is over 8k).

I'd like to see proof that the cost is only $80 at Pacific. Everything I've seen shows it to be at least 4-5 times that.

And it's only $991 at VUSA...
