    U14G weekend 3 group predictions

    Saturday:

    Bridlemile Mercury @ OC Pioneers
    Sherwood @ SSC Hotspur
    PCU Impact @ ESUFC Arsenal
FC Portland Platinum @ Oregon Rush Nike
    FC Portland Ruby @ RVSC
no game: THUSC, LOSC, EMFC, WSM, United SA.

    Sunday:

United SA Hotshots @ THUSC Sodium
    ESUFC Arsenal @ EMFC Magic
OC Pioneers @ Oregon Rush Nike
    PCU Impact @ WSM Venom
no game: Bridlemile, Sherwood, SSC, FC Portland Platinum and Ruby, RVSC, LOSC.

It's 5:00pm Sunday and there are 8 teams left in the 2010 U14G State Cup.. but which 8?

Saturday recap: OC is not out, but darn close. They must regroup and quick by pounding Bridlemile- no easy task at all. Bridlemile rebounded from a 6-1 loss to Oregon Rush by playing FC Portland Platinum tough all the way to the end last weekend. OC must win both games this weekend. Not going to happen. Down one player to red card as well. Bridlemile with (mild) upset. Bridlemile 2 OC 1.

Whoever wins, Sherwood vs SSC, is in the QF's, simple as that. SSC can sneak in with a tie and fewer goals given up, but why would they? This will be a great game to go watch two teams go for broke. SSC moves on. SSC 4 Sherwood 1.

PCU Impact- perhaps the new underdog to root for in this years State Cup? A close 1-0 loss to EMFC last weekend shows they can definitely play with the gold teams- they have a shot to put themselves in great shape for the QF's by knocking off ESUFC. ESUFC comes through this game unscathed and they are in to the round of 8.. I'm going to go with another 1-0 heartbreak loss for PCU. ESUFC 1 PCU Impact 0.

FC Portland Platinum has a great chance to show that their "develop during league, win when it matters" strategy has them on track for another final game appearance as they head to Eagle Crest to meet Oregon Rush and win their group. Oregon Rush scored 6 last time out and won't duplicate that total, but they do want to wrap up the group before the OC game the next day. I see this one staying close most of the game with Oregon Rush pulling away at the end. Oregon Rush 2 FC Portland 0.

FC Portland Ruby needs to win big against RVSC. They boost their goal difference back to the plus side and have a little help from THUSC Sodium on Sunday and they may be moving on. RVSC appears to have come a little unglued in their last game against Sodium, letting in 9, so it's anyones guess which RVSC will show up. FC Portland with everything to lose, RVSC with nothing to gain. FC Portland Ruby makes the long trip to Medford and comes back with a 1-0 win. FC Portland Ruby 1 RVSC 0.

Sunday recap: With the above Ruby victory, the United SA game with THUSC Sodium takes on added importance and urgency. THUSC is into the QF's but whether they play on as group winners or runners up hinges on this as well. United SA tie or win (or even lose a close one, potentially), they advance. United SA gives up a bunch and Ruby is in. This may be the game of the weekend to watch, as THUSC hasn't given up a goal and wants to keep it that way. THUSC gives up their first goal, but United gives up 3, and FC Portland Ruby advances. THUSC Sodium 3 United SA 1.

The top two from Group D, ESUFC Arsenal and EMFC Magic, will have already made the QF's by the time this one kicks off from Eugene, but sshh, don't tell them that. Instead watch two even teams slug it out to a very entertaining and fair result. ESUFC 1 EMFC 1.

OC Pioneers have made the long trip to play Oregon Rush knowing that they have been eliminated the night before. Oregon Rush have already won the group and are looking to fine-tune things before the knockout round of 8. This one has the very real potential of getting ugly before it is over- let's hope not. Oregon Rush 5 OC Pioneers 0.

It's a shame WSM Venom and PCU Impact won't have anything riding on this game except pride, as both will be on the outside looking in by the time this kicks off. PCU will finally score a goal in this State Cup, then add several more in the 2nd half. PCU Impact 3 WSM Venom 1.

    Quarter Finals:

LOSC Extreme vs. FC Portland Platinum
ESUFC (advances 1st on tiebreaker with EMFC) vs FC Portland Ruby
    Oregon Rush vs. EMFC
    THUSC Sodium vs. SSC Hotspur
