How generous of the much older UF and FSU to allow the newer UCF and USF together to gain about 80 percent of the Florida Academic Bright Futures Scholars. Working together for a higher university system in Florida.

Then UF takes the majority of its students who get their AAs from the community colleges who couldn't get into UCF or USF as freshman.
All my kids were Bright Futures Academics and got in. Recommend your kid goes to a JUCO and tries again in two years. Problem solved.

USF, the fallback to the fallback's - fallback.

UF will enroll 6,500 freshman and 25% of those will be out-of-state students. UF will enroll less than 10% of Florida's Academic Scholars.

More students who have top test scores and grades are qualifying for and using the Bright Futures’ academic scholars program, which pays for 100 percent of tuition and fees and provides $300 for books in the fall and spring semesters.

The latest estimate shows a projected 52,179 students will qualify this year as academic scholars, up from 45,295 last year, or a 15 percent increase. That program will grow by another 9.5 percent next budget year for a total of 57,138 students in 2019-2020, the estimate showed.

To qualify for the program, students must have a 3.5 grade point average and score at least a 1290 on the SAT or a 29 on the ACT. They must also complete 100 hours of community service.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) — The University of Florida Police Department is currently investigating a sexual battery that occurred Saturday night on UF campus near the Florida Gym.

In a UF Alert, UFPD says that the report was from a food services employee supervisor to whom the victim confided.

According to the report, the woman was in an alleyway north of the Florida Gym and south of the Student Recreation and Fitness Center when an unknown male approached behind her and sexually battered her. The victim was unable to provide any suspect description or additional details of the incident to the reporting person.

UFPD is asking anyone with information about the incident, or was in the area at the time, or who may know the man’s identity is asked to call the University of Florida Police Department.

FAS starts at a 3.5 GPA and a 1290/29. No doubt many great kids in that range but certainly not in the range where they should expect to get into a top 50 school. This is not an issue of FAS recipients not getting in. You have an unreasonable exception of who should get in.

If my kids had 3.5 GPA's and less than 1300 on their SAT's, I would certainly be encouraging them to apply at a number of other schools with little expectation of getting into UF or FSU.

Unfortunately that is at pretty much any college. It sucks but doesn't make your hard on for UF any more justified.

A 29 ACT places you in the top 91st percentile nationally out of the 2 million students taking the ACT this year. For comparison purposes, a 29 on the ACT converts to a 1340 on the SAT based on the College Board. Most of the Academic Scholars with 29/1340 or higher have higher GPAs than 3.5. Just sayin that UF is not meeting the majority of Florida's top students. Our Florida taxpayers pay for our public (and private) elementary through high schools (capital expenses, teacher salaries,..) and money to the university system. Lottery money pays for much of the Bright Futures scholarships.

Since you through out the gauntlet, figured I'd go look before UF reject dad found some obscure data to fit his agenda.
