It is simple to get into UF. The kid must score at the average test scores and GPA to be considered. A 31 ACT/ 1400 SAT is at the 95th national percentile. But it is the running joke because the majority of Florida's students who are denied at UF are Florida Bright Futures Academic Scholars who go on to UCF and USF. Then UF takes the majority of its students who get their AAs from the community colleges who couldn't get into UCF or USF as freshman.

UF's freshman application numbers went up by 1.4% to a record 41,407 for 2019. Florida admitted 14,136 students over the weekend to its incoming class, down slightly from the 14,866 admitted last year. Of the 14,136 admits, 3,108 were admitted for the summer B session, while 11,027 were admitted for fall semester.

Of the 14,136 admitted, UF officials expect to enroll about 6,550 for the 2023 class.

There were 1,514 admitted to the honors program, 498 to the Innovation Academy and 3,149 to the Pathway to Campus Admission (PaCE) program. (The PACE students do not live on campus and only take online classes for the fall and spring in certain declared majors like agriculture.)

The average SAT went up to 1388, up from 1364 last year. (median between 1330 -1460)
The average GPA went from 4.4 to 4.45 (median between 4.3-4.6)

These statistics include the athletes and others who were admitted on special consideration. If your kid did not have numbers at the high end there was no chance. UF only has space for 6,550 freshman. It uses the Coalition Application to search the world for the students with the highest numbers to recruit. Without the higher numbers it can't move up to the number 5 best public university spot. It will never end. UF can however find 65 million dollars to build a new baseball stadium.

It is all about perceived image.. low admittance rates for freshman.. to stay on the top 10 public university list. But only the freshman admittance numbers are used for statistics not the majority who actually come in from the community colleges.

Here it is in full with edited Average SAT score. The irony is that a university that prides itself in research can't get its press release numbers out correctly and it doesn't have the breakdown of diversity, geographic and gender statistics. The biggest drawback of UF according to students we have talked to is that it is a research university. The professors only came about their research and grant money to the point they don't teach or hire graduate students to do their teaching. The freshman feel like a number and the university expects the students to hit their grade marks to get accepted into their major. The students transfering in from community colleges are hitting the marks.
