Is it too late to start?

I want to start playing and I'm 16. I'm just wondering if they will teach me how to play at this point or if I have to know what I'm doing?

A good friend of mine didn't start soccer until high school. He got a book on all the basics of soccer (now you could use youtube) and worked on everything over one summer and went on to a great high school career and then captain of a division 1 college team. He worked his butt off though. If you're willing to do that, then there is nothing you can't accomplish on and off a soccer field at any age.

That's good to hear, but it didn't answer my question whether they teach you or not.

Read it again! He taught himself and there's no reason you can't teach yourself either. Don't make excuses or depend on others to achieve what you want in life. If you check youtube for instructional videos or simply buy a book and practice hard on your own, you can be as good and knowledgeable as anyone in no time.

This is your only choice at 16 if you want to play on any kind of serious team. No coach can spend all of his time helping just one player. He may ask you this question, and what would your answer be?

"Is there any reason you didn't look at videos on youtube or buy a book and practice on your own before coming here and expecting you to get all of my attention instead of kids who already know what you don't" ?

Getting started is 90% of the battle. get a ball and start working. If you come in with basic ball skills a coach WILL HELP you with strategy, etc. What a coach needs more than anything is kids with good ball skills who are willing to listen to learn the game. And ball skills are something you can practice on your own.
