    A Classy Gesture

Since this Forum is usually filled with negativity and cowardly snipping, I thought it would be refreshing to provide something positive.

I am the father of the Prout Goalie who was injured in the NK Match yesterday (collision between striker and Goalie) in box. Daughter has concussion and 65 stitches in lip. You ask what is classy...well. Today daughter is at home resting and recovering. She recieved flowers and well wishes to recover quickly from NK Girls Soccer Team, Parents and Coaches. Daughter has friends on NK Team who she plays on Bayside with and former players from RAMS.

An excellent display of compassion, sportsmanship and friendship. I congratulate you.

    Thank you.

The injury fund is sitting on $3M dollars...hopefully that is there if you need it too (nice to hear some good stories from RIIL!)

I wish your daughter a speedy and full recovery! Kudos to NK for showing class and displaying proper sportsmanship. Nobody wants to see a child injured ever, I hope she gets out on the pitch soon.

They have teams all the way down to U4-U5 so the pipeline looks full. Only question will be if the egos will all be able to play as a team over the next few years. If they had some better leadership on the Boys side they would look pretty good to but not sure what's going on there.
Next couple of year?? I think the future is now.

Striker's program is quality, however, a team still need high caliber athletes to compete in D1. Lasalle recruits the whole state having the largest population to choose from, towns like Cumberland are fed from two middle schools. There are south county teams drawing for four to five communities. Every HS team basically has the same amount of skilled club players. There are as many club players from Bayside and NEFC in Bristol as there are "Strikers" in Smithfield. My point is this; High School success has something to do with student population. Even with great training you need 2 or 3 'Special Athletic' type players for ultimate success and Smithfield doesn't draw any more students than most. Every school in D1 has the same make-up. Their top 12-14 are all Club players, but which school gets the KV (Pilgrim) or MKM (Ports). That's the real future. Obviously, this is just the opinion, not trolling SHS.

You're missing my point. Obviously all top programs are loaded with premier club players. I get that. My point is that the Strikers program is giving a lot more kids a chance to play and train at a higher level than they would have if they had to leave and pay $$$ to play. The model makes it affordable for a much bigger group of players, therefore, logically there are more quality players available for the HS. I'm not saying now and I didn't say before that any of these players are better or superior to any other club players elsewhere. Imagine how good other small town HS programs could be if a similar model were used in their town? Our current soccer culture leaves a lot of kids waiting at the bus stop for the free shuttle bus to show up while the "chosen" ones ride away in luxury coach bus. Pay to play is a great model for money making clubs but not so much for the masses. Just food for thought

Keep telling yourself that. If you say it enough times you'll believe it. I bet there are more parents in your town that wish they had a similar model to choose than those who don't. The snake oil salesmen are all wearing fancy costumes and talking with funny accents.

The problem is that this model doesn't scale and that is why there is club soccer. How do you attract quality trainers to run a town program? How many town programs have a qualified DOC? That's the problem

Getting back to girls HS soccer, Big showdown coming Monday night in NK! LaSalle is on top as expected but is NK for real this season? LaSalle has talented kids all over the field (from all over the state). NK is loaded with seniors and has talented forwards and a couple of really good defenders but do they have enough in the midfield to matchup with LaSalle? If LaSalle is still playing their 3-5-2 is NK just going to keep playing the ball long to their forwards to negate the midfield anyway? This should even be a really good JV matchup!

hard to tell if NK is for real.... they could (should?) have lost to SK and dodged a bullet with an EWG collapse. They are strongest (and deepest) at forward with lots of speed and interchangeable parts. They are thinnest in the back with some injury concerns. This is what the coach wants... put pressure on the other team and not worry about defense. I don't think NK can win the midfield forcing them to play over the top as suggested. If LaSalle can pressure the NK back players they should be able to force a number of turnovers.

I am not sure how the NK JV team does so well given the issues with their midfield as well.
