Just observing, Smithfield's offense is strong as well as defense, midfield is lacking. They dominated Mount Hope and were able to move the ball around.

Just as you stated. It would be nice for the coach to show some humanity and sportsmanship. No need to embarassed another team that we. Looking at the score seem to me the coach kept the starters in for the whole game. I would have sub the starters and give some of my freshmen playing time so they can game some experience. Then again it is West Warwick.

Another class act... the NK JV girls beat Prout 11 - 0.... nice job coach. Maybe next time you can get to 20....

People need to stop complaining about blowouts. When the two teams are that mismatched what should the kids and the coach do? Tell the girls not shoot and just play keep away ? I coached and lopsided games happen, particularly in lower divisions and in some of theses JV games. It's not any less embarrassing to an opponent for a team to not shoot to keep the score down and they play keep away instead. Some coaches think that's even more demoralizing for the players. I actually had a coach yell at me on the sidelines once for discreetly playing with less players to keep the game more even, he said I was embarrassing him more! It's also obvious to everyone when kids only shoot left footed, miss on purpose, etc. The only way around it is a mercy rule.

Completely agree. Stop focusing on the score. Most 11-0 games could have been 30-0. It depends more on how the game is played. If the winning team is clearly stepping off the gas and not celebrating wildly for each goal and showing respect for the losing team, that is more important than the score. It is usually the parents who can't handle the blowouts. Most players understand and are more insulted if they have to play a big game of keep away with the other team.

Next couple of years will reveal if the Smithfield Youth Soccer/RI Strikers/Bayside FC experiment is working. Team loaded with these Sophmores and Freshmen now (I think I counted 6-7 on the starting line up) and 7-8 quality players should start rolling into the HS every year now. They have teams all the way down to U4-U5 so the pipeline looks full. Only question will be if the egos will all be able to play as a team over the next few years. If they had some better leadership on the Boys side they would look pretty good to but not sure what's going on there.
