The following part of post #154 on 8/16 "EWG team is about to wake up to a nightmare" seems EWG is a nightmare to some others. Not saying EWG is the best, but saying they turned out better than most expected or gave them credit.
NK is an average team with a large number of goals given up throughout the season. Obviously this is someone trying to troll around and generate a response, and is not someone from NK. No one that stumbles into a 7th or 8th seed would be bragging like you are. NK will depart after the quarterfinals, or maybe even the preliminary rounds, then you'll have to find a new target to harass. I wonder who that will be?
Large number of goals given up? NK gave up 14 goals on the year... fewer goals allowed than the 4th seed EWG team (16) and the 6th seed Smithfield team (20). SK (8th seed) gave up 15. NK allowed the 5th fewest goals on the season behind LaSalle, EG, BV, and Portsmouth (in order of goals allowed, not record). So "large number of goals given up" is an incorrect assessment. The NK keeper has played very well this year.
Is NK a flawed team? Yes, but so are other playoff teams
You're confused--the "almost assured Allstate goalkeeper" plays for LSA. NK has allowed more goals than most lower seeded teams. Not sure how many LSA has allowed. Isn't it a pretty low number?? BVA 3 - NK 0.
Let's agree to that both NK and LS goalies are very good. However, the best goalie in the State plays in D3. Just fact....
Let the upsets begin!!! D1 is full of paper tigers with poor offensive skills throughout!! Defense and penalty kicks will lead the so called D1 Dawgs to upset victory! We all know the so called top teams are no match in the penalty kick arena!!! That is a rhetorical statement for the BV English bloat!!! Sorry, my thesaurus check got stuck, I meant bloviate. Let the new season begin!!!!
Goals against is only one factor of many to determine supremacy in little Rhody!!! They're multi-factorial reasons for any goal!! Defensive players contribute to any goal against a goaly!! Therfore, NK and MH have the two best goalies in the state!!
Defense will prevail throughout the playoffs like it always has in the past. If you cant score, you lose. Every player on the field contributes to every goal for or against, that's why its called a team sport. Even if its something as simple as taking a flop in the box.
Please don't bring up the BV flopping theatrics!!! AD'S get ready for the call!!! Unreal how far people will disrespect the game to win! Hollow victory!!!
Not really sure how anyone could think this is anything other than the most unpredictable D1 playoffs of the last 5 years? There is no dominant team or player. Any team 1-10 seed can beat any other on any given night. Anyone who says anything else is just expressing their own wishful thinking; and yes, I have a kid on one of these teams. If you think 1 goal wins in RI girls soccer mean your team is dramatically superior and on a roll to the final with ease, you're delusional. Buckle up, buttercups, it's gonna be a bumpy ride!
Well, given 2012 had the 1,2,3, and 5 seeds in semis (and BV at 5 was better than NK at 4 seed and LSA was coming off losing a dominant senior class), 2010 and 2011 had 1-4 seeds in semis,, it would not be hard to say this year could be the "most unpredictable".
but in reality, the one factor that does make it more "unpredictable" is the top seeds, while having terrific defenses, do not have the dominant scorer who can be counted on to get the one goal -- so it does leave open the chance for 0-0 outcome and then yes, shootouts are somewhat more unpredictable.
It's hard to imagine anyone on the left side of the bracket other than LSA getting through. I do think Smithfield could put together a game vs EG, but the turf/home field is an advantage to EG. While NK does have a great GK, they have not shown the ability to score against good defenses (0 vs LSA, EG, BV..only a gift PK vs Smithfield -- I don't include EWG and Portsmouth as having comparably good defenses -- so if they go down 1-0, they will fold up).

Don't forget--it's high school style soccer. Individual players will make the difference. There are really only 2 strong scorers in this class of 2014--one at Smithfield and one at EWG. Both are D1 prospects, and whichever eats the most Wheaties on the morning of the game could be the difference maker. Would be interesting if they met in finals.

except Smithfield has a team of mostly premier/ECNL players while EWG has 10 EWG town players and one premier player. Not very good odds.

Guess it is moot now...nk goes down 3 to 2 at home..biggest flaw with nk starts on the sideline..
