It looks like the 4th seed is between Portsmouth, EWG, and Smithfield. Having seen them all play, I am surprised Smithfield is even in the discussion. Definitely the weakest team we've seen this year. Trash goals scored against what is really our JV defense, and their defense was non-existent. Portsmouth is tough but I think with their remaining schedule they would have to have some luck getting that 4th seed. EWG is the best coached and strongest up front--looks like their remaining schedule lends itself to a 5 game sweep. No doubt at this poinbt that BV, EG and LSA will be the top 3.

who cares about a bye in the playoffs. Just getting in is better. 5th or 6th seed is the position of strenth.

You are either clueless or just looking for a response, anytime you can play one less playoff game the better you are. Chance of injury, loss etc. Plus if you are not a top four your quarter final is also on the road. The higher the standings the better, you want to be one of the top four.

How would the top D2 teams fare against D1 competition? Is there any overlap?

You have only some comparisons.. EG takes on a slightly above the middle of the D2 pack Westerly (why a school would schedule a meaningless NL game in the middle of the season is beyond me unless you are using it to give some bench sitters a game; othewise a lot of potential downside without much upside).

A slightly above the middle D1 Smithfield beat a top 3 D2 Burrillville 2-0. The fact that the recent D1 bottom feeder Vets is top 5 in D2 tells you that there is for the most part little overlap. However, there can be (ie. EWG) D2 teams that for a certain cohort can play competitively in D1 (the last 7 D2 champions are all now in D1) -- there is not a strong correlation on the girls side between school enrollment and soccer competitiveness, but it is still tough for lower enrollment schools that do not have a strong youth program to maintain consistently strong cohorts.

LSA has not conceded a goal in a league game yet; hard to see how a NK team that got blanked by Cumberland and only got a gift PK against Smithfield is going to get 2..

I think they would do fine. Any team scoring as well as they are and not getting scored against should be competitive playing up. I think that Lincoln has quite a few girls playing soccer outside the town league system as well.

It also looks like that coveted 4th seed is still up for grabs. If EWG wins all of their remaining games, it is theirs, but Cumberland is no roll over and NK is still strong. However, a Portsmouth loss to LSA pretty much gives EWG that 4th spot even if EWG drops 1 or 2. Smithfield would need a lot of luck to get a bye at this point. The top 3 seeds are already spoken for--it is just a matter of which team gets which spot.
