I watched a game last week where you have one defender running all over the field chasing every ball, heading anything that moved, and running through every ball at full speed. Looks great, but no one sees the 10 marks she left while chasing the ball, the multiple possessions she handed over by aimlessly kicking and heading every ball she was in 5 feet of, and the stupid penalties she incurred at critical times and places on the field by charging every 50/50 at 110% speed.

But everybody (including the coach) keeps cheering for her to keep it up, she's the star. Crazy.

Meanwhile you have skilled players trying to play balls out of backfield, making passes to feet, and playing cover looking like they are lost out there and getting yelled at by coach.

The delusion of high school soccer.
Know exactly what team your talking about. All the running around makes people think she's a great player while the outside defender on this team has to pick up multiple marks and is actually a much better play maker. Just never gets the chance to get the ballad it's being kicked all over creation by this player

It depends on the severity of NK injuries. Cumberland could pull off a win aganst a depleted NK team, and Mt Hope is no small potatoes. They crowd the box, but that's what they did for years in D2 agfainst ewg and I don't think think it ever worked then.

depleted NK team? They may be out their best player depending on what happened Tuesday to her, but other than that, who else among their starters are they missing? Oh, I get what you mean -- that one player is the team because everyone else is conditioned to get it up the field to her.

As another poster stated, Cumberland and Mt. Hope are muckers..Mt. Hope has only given up 3 goals in last 3 games and 2 were at EG..Cumberland has only given up 4 goals in 4 home games..but both teams don't have any offense to speak of so it is a matter of the other team having a player or two that can make a good individual effort and score against 8/9 packed in.. EWG has that..NK has that in 1 player so if she is there, then they'll win too..otherwise, you might see 0-0..

If crowd the box is code for dirty, cheap and unsporting play, then I would tend to agree with you. HS soccer is certainly not the beautiful game, but the way they play sets back soccer in the US 30 years

Cumberland does a great job for a "mucker." Crushed NK. Thoroughly dominated them. NK will be lucky to finish .500 with their remaining schedule and their mid-season slide well underway.

Only Mt. Hope parents would be screaming at the ref after winning a game... stay classy Bristol/Warren, stay classy.

Its the same goofs that have been screaming on the sidelines for years. Glad to see EWG hand them a kick in the teeth.

                    KV leads Pilgrim to win.

She is a very talented player but a leader she is not. There are time she needs to put the team on her back and lead them to a win instead she cried about every little thing. That too bad because she is a phenomenon player.

I think even if ewg had stayed D2 they would have been middle of the pack vs Warwcik, Pilgim, Lincoln, Burrillville, Scituate, and other very strong d2 squads. Not sure which is more of a pleasant surprise--Warwick Vets doing great in D2 or Ewg strugglilng in D1. What goes around comes around. :)
EWG middle of the pack, check the standings they are tied for the number 4 seed. EWG scrimmaged preseason all the top teams except Lincoln and Pilgrim and crushed them all so I would think since they are near the top of D1 they would be in D2. Not a EWG parent or coach just tired of never giving them credit. They seem to be a quality team.

with Cumberland, Bayview, Barrington and NK left to play, EWG could slip in the standings. Those 4 teams are just hitting their stride.

Agreed. Was at the game yesterday and she was a force. The Lincoln CB both had their best matches of the season imho and the Lincoln Keeper came up huge on two breakaways. 17 is a leader, the thing that impressed me most was her ability to send thru balls to the mids, very unselfish. She had a great game, so did Lincoln, they were able to make a few more plays out there. As a parent - excellent match to watch, both teams played physical and both played a nice brand of soccer.

Barrington is coming off two defeats in which it was shutout in both games..still has Portsmouth and EWG.

Cumberland could sneak in with Prout and CW still remaining.

NK stride - you mean backward..it is in 7th..having lost to the teams right below and right above it..and remaining games against the 1,2,3,4, and 5 seeds..

EWG still has CW, Barrington, Toll Gate..will finish 4th as Smithfield moves up and Portsmouth stalls.. EG, LSA, Bayview, Smithfield.. top 4 seeds at end of the season..

For Smithfield to finish 4th, EWG has to lose a game. Smithfield does not control it's own destiny--EWG, EG, LSA and Portsmouth do. I do though foresee the following finish:

                                EG
                                LSA
                                EWG
                                Smithfield
