In case you didn't realizeit , there are a number of pretty good colleges within 45-90 minutes from most RI high schools.
Or just go to the state championship games at RIC. There are usually college coaches roaming around. Almost always there to see players that they have either already recruited or ones tht have expressed interest in their school. Or maybe just scouting.

only the RI best high school players were at these region 1 games at URI. If you were not there then you are not in the best of the RI players. Even you could read the providence journal and figure that out but you probably cant know how to read

now that regional is over we can talk about how those best players will compete in D2 for the champion game. Now the best players are D2 again. It will be good to see the matchups finally having some good games and a great chance to watch the players.

Ok I'll bite, last year all the talk was how D2 is no where as good as D1. The best of D2 could not win any games in D1, now EWG (with a top player) is in D1 and Vets D2 how is this year we are going to see the quote "it will be good to see the matchups finally having some good games and a great chance to watch the players." I did not realize Vets had so many good players.

Can we actually admit their is no correlation between this weekend's Regional play and High School soccer?

Many of the supposed BEST players in high school either weren't playing this weekend or if they were, probably had very little impact/standout power.

There are kids on the All State teams that will never receive any interest from a coach beyond HS and they made the list because they are good athletes, not great soccer players. Which is fine and an accomplishment but not comparable to being to manage the box, or maintain possession, quick decision-making, etc.

Fancy footwork looks great in D3 and D2 HS and will score a lot of goals but frankly is of no value at a high level unless you can do it with speed and have the size and toughness not to get steamrolled or doubled when you play a quality team.

Can tell you that the U16G players getting a lot of looks this weekend and making themselves known to college coaches weren't the ones on the projo's All State list.

Yes..because in general Sophomores don't make the list and then if they play in MA or play for non-D1 school then it becomes even harder...or for a school that is not at the top of pack..

Once again a fool chooses to post on Talking SOccer. THE BEST high school players in RI were playing in regionals this weekend. The U16G team has arguable three of the top five or six RI high school players. SO next time do your homweork before making such poor comments

Probably a pretty inaccurate comment about HS all states. Most of those from the last few years are at D1 colleges and getting a good amount of playing time as freshmen, or are committed to D1 colleges if they havent graduated yet. There are many ways to get noticed by college coaches and the most clever players (and the ones that college coaches want to see) know how to get noticed in both high school and in club soccer, whether USYSA, ECNL or whatever they are in. Those who think there is only one way to get noticed usually end up not getting noticed at all.

The point is that now with the new alignment, the best players will be in D2 and will finally have there chance to show that D2 is the most competitive and has the most players that can be consedered the best in RI this year. Last year they did not have the chance to shine because of poor RIIL alignment practices.

There is no new alignment this year, only EWG and Warwick switched and that takes out one of the top players from D2 and puts in D1. Plus this is a silly discussion D1 will have their share of quality players as will D2 and D3, with competitive matches within each division at the level of play of their respected divisions.

Oh vey people are already stupid in this thread. Really all the talent is in D2?

I wouldn't expect too much in terms of college success/signings in the next couple years. The best source of talent is Bayside U16 and 1 or 2 might get some D1 interest from that team - the rest are likely D2 or D3.

Very different talent today in RI than the past couple years - more team based than individual

Exactly, the most likely D1 candidates on Bayside U16 are not the offensive players (too small, slow) its the defenders and keeper.

they probably won't be on projio "all state" list anytime soon but they'll be on college coach radar.

There are great high school players (speed, footskills, etc) and there are great potential college players (size, toughness, book and soccer smarts, etc), if you are one, it doesn't mean you are the other.

There's a reason why college coaches don't go watch high school soccer games even the state fianls.
