Problem was DA didn’t allow high school. But if ECNL offered a fall season in which kids could choose high school ball, club, or even both why not? Not offering a fall season in ECNL os just as bad as not allowing kids to play for their high school. Kids often play town soccer and club through 8th grade. Some also make some middle school games. They make club practices a priority and games on weekends. They could do the same w high school, just figure out your own schedule and make it work. Might even give those trapped 8th graders teammates to play w in club in the fall. Sure your kid won’t make every practice for both teams and may have to schedule a day off but plenty of subs on the bench happy to get playing time when players need rest.

There’s too many reasons that won’t work to even comment on.

this is exactly what is wrong with Rhode Island.

        - playing high school and premier soccer at the same time, is possibly even worse then just playing High School. Not looking to go against you here. Just think High school soccer needs to come to an end. Many athletes in Rhode Island once they get to high school play multiple sports. Which is actually the age they should be choosing one. In other states where high schools have a larger student body a soccer player wouldn’t stand a chance to play on a basketball team. For example their is a RI school their girls basketball team had no subs all season 99% of the roster was soccer players. Let’s take a guess of what happened? One athlete tore her ACL right at the start of the basketball season right when soccer ended.

Female soccer players should have the opportunity like males to play a 12 month premier season with players who take soccer just as serious. I bet there is max 1-2 athletes every 10-15 years who actually can come through Rhode Island that can play at the collegiate level in two sports. No athletes should be playing 3-4 high school sports. Good saying “a Jack of all trades a master a none”. Hope to see the day that a league like the DA return.

Roughly 394k girls play HS soccer and only
28k or 7 % play in college. The numbers are staggering.
Yet most parents think or expect their child will be part of the 7 %.

How about this. If you are afraid to get hurt playing HS sports then don't play. If you have a real shot of playing in college then you are probably at a club that offers trainings in the fall for those that choose not to play. You also can't compare men to women. There is just so many more opportunities for men in playing a sport for a living then there are for women. The last post told you the percentages. So on average there's maybe 1 or 2 in each town. If you're hoping it's your kid then it's not your kid. For most playing in high school it will be the most fun they had playing their sport. You're going to be disappointed if you put all your eggs in the playing in college basket.

your looking at the percentage the wrong way. The way to view it is that the system is broken. The high school sports is the reason the percentage is so low. This non sense of the offering of boys or girls you sound like a person back from the Stone Age. Girls and boys should have the chance to play 12 a month premier soccer season. Clubs offering training for those who need it is easy. High Schools are over working these athletes.

I agree. High schools are over working these players. The coaches have the challenge of working with club players who are technically strong, and conditioned and working with the players who might be physically strong, but not technically, and often a bit out of shape. Do the high school coach is trying to work w what he’s got. Which means the club player ends up over worked while coach is trying to get the other players up to speed in fitness and technique. This is why club players need to have an opportunity to have a rest and recovery day built in. Let the others work on getting fit while club players have a day off, building in injury prevention. By the way guy above those high level club players can and many will play on a college team. Maybe not D1 not UNC, but definitely plenty of colleges in the northeast alone D2 and D3 will have spots for those players.

Yes the reason why there is no ECNL or GA season in the fall is because of Stone Age sexist men. I’m not sure you understand how math works. The number is 7% because there is only so many colleges and roster spots. Not because Susie hurt her knee in high school. Clubs do offer training in the fall, but there just isn’t games because there is no market for it.

Or you can view it as the system working. High schools are giving many players the chance to play sports competitively in high school despite the fact that few will ever be able to play competitively at college.

Just to add statistics which I found interesting that were released by the NCAA from 2020
Females- play in High school 394k Play in College 28k. 7.2 percent
Males - play in High School 459k. Play in College 25k. 5.6 percent
The college numbers for both sexes includes Div 1,2 and 3 participants.
so for females , more are participating in college than their male counterparts and they have slightly better odds to play.

Not sure that is the only reason. HS seasons are brutal, practice every day plus two games per week. Lots of fouls, yet few are called, not the best level of play. Playing on a club team at the same time would be too much unless the HS coach is willing to let the player choose club as the priority when schedules overlap.

High School soccer in public schools is like the Hunger Games. You are lucky to survive.

RIIL rules state that HS games/practices come first if there’s an outside conflict.
