That is Bayside's model for bringing in the $$$. Parents have not seen those players at regional events because their kid is not good enough for those teams, Bayside knows this. So basically JMA knows he can sell an inferior product at a high cost due to the ignorance of the parents. Bruno has gone out and obtained more qualified girl coaches who will train their girls to get to that level and the parents $1850 will be well spent.

Maybe, but perhaps the better model is to build up your foundation first before adding extra layers. Have a solid coaching staff, excellent facilities, have some tournament or other draws that market your club, dominate your "home" turf.. then start to venture out.

Yeah, the Rays, especially a couple of teams, spent a lot of time playing teams outside RI and basic MAPLE competition.. but never built a strong foundation..so team success did not translate to building a strong club..

Time will tell with Bayside..but I give them credit, even though my kids play for other clubs, for building at least what seems from the outside a solid base.

I dont doubt, as you say, all things being equal, BS likely would have beaten Rays in SC 2011 regardless.

No doubt BS was a better team. They were equal if not better in 2010 too, they did not play as well as they could have in final.

But I doubt that those Rays girls are washed up (as individual players) at u14.

It is a numbers game and BS has the numbers for now. 5 years ago did anyone think that the Rays wouldnt exist in 2012? Not many...I think there may be a cautionary tale there for JMA and his merry men too.

Agreed - but realize that of the Rays top 11 players from that team - probably only half are still playing premier. Many opted out of premiere for high school sports. And of that half, very little are playing at the incoming U15 level, many have gone up to U16s.

So overall, their impact on that level has been muted - too bad because there are 2-3 that could play for Bayside and you'd have an even stronger team.

Everyone complains about the level of soccer play and training available to players in RI but when an organization trys to build a strong base of teams and develop responsibly over time, they are demonized for being all about the money.

The dismal state of RI Premiere soccer is because a bunch of nitwits have started clubs and really only been able to support one or two teams, they live off shoestring budgets and are held captive by coaches who will move teams on their whim. The ones that gained any traction have squeezed everything they can out of it with out improving the product at any level (a la Rays and Bruno).

There is no reason Bruno is the half-ass program it is or the Rays have devolved other than they never gave a crap about the product - they were the only options and they milked it.

Bayside has invested in their programs and coaching and they are starting to have the results on a state level - I'm sure they will continue to grow at the rate they feel they can support and not be in a place where they have to take on any clown coach with a group of young kids and parents willing to cut checks like the Rays (oh and by the way, I'm going to help my buddy who sells uniforms and make you purchase new kits again this year while your practicing on a rock and broken glass strewn public park because we have no facilitiy agreements).

The top clubs in thois country are a business first and as with any business, you get what you pay for. I can tell you the value for each dollar you spend on Bayside is much better than Rays/Bruno.

its sad to see the rays gone. We were once with the rays team--it would have been the U16 team this year. The level of mental impairment on this board is astounishing.

Everyone complains about the level of soccer play and training available to players in RI but when an organization trys to build a strong base of teams and develop responsibly over time, they are demonized for being all about the money.

The dismal state of RI Premiere soccer is because a bunch of nitwits have started clubs and really only been able to support one or two teams, they live off shoestring budgets and are held captive by coaches who will move teams on their whim. The ones that gained any traction have squeezed everything they can out of it with out improving the product at any level (a la Rays and Bruno).

There is no reason Bruno is the half-ass program it is or the Rays have devolved other than they never gave a crap about the product - they were the only options and they milked it.

Bayside has invested in their programs and coaching and they are starting to have the results on a state level - I'm sure they will continue to grow at the rate they feel they can support and not be in a place where they have to take on any clown coach with a group of young kids and parents willing to cut checks like the Rays (oh and by the way, I'm going to help my buddy who sells uniforms and make you purchase new kits again this year while your practicing on a rock and broken glass strewn public park because we have no facilitiy agreements).

The top clubs in thois country are a business first and as with any business, you get what you pay for. I can tell you the value for each dollar you spend on Bayside is much better than Rays/Bruno.

we have been in the premier circuit for several years now, we are now looking into going to MA as well. I didn't want it to that but at this stage of the game, it's inevitable.

Good luck with your decision (may I encourage you to continue to pursue BW!) and let me add about the Bayside "business model." While our U15g team did not perform as was expected this year, the Bayside U15 g team was absolutely not expected to win state cup. That was a complete surprise to us, and probably to many of their own parents as well. They are solid enough, but this notion that they will continue their slow steady development is a crock. By the time their girls are U18, maybe they'll be ready to play at the subregional level. Is that what you want? Invest all this money for years and in your last year as a club player, we might move to a more challenging level? As for BW, you would be making a wise choice. We may be in NEP next season again but our goal is to advance.

Glad to see there are some others who find this line of reasoning to be ridiculous. We left Bayside this year because of the approach that the best thing for our players is to stay at the Maple level for awhile before moving on. And now we are going to ........NEP! Come on guys. Step it up a notch. As if playing in the cellar division at the Scorpion bowl wasn't enough for "RI's best club."

It's a big year for Bayside girls. They will get to play the big girls clubs in NEP.

At U11 they are supposed to have a good team. Scorpions, Aztecs, and NEFC are all certain to have good teams too.

At U12 they had a mediocre team last year that lost to NEFC Dartmouth and that team is not as good as NEFC Burke, Scorpions, Aztecs, so they will hope to pick up some players.

U13 lost 8 players as far as we know, to various RI and MA clubs, so you'd have to think they will struggle.

U14 gained players from Rays and elsewhere, but they were relegated out of MAPLE and finished in the bottom half of NEP last year. It's hard to believe they will make a big leap to being able to compete with the NEFC teams, Aztecs, Stars West, Scorpions Premier, but we'll see.

Could be a long fall for Bayside girls, or a season of redemption.

BS isnt for everyone, the assumption being made is that if your kid is any good at all, then they must play for BS. If they dont, then there must be something wrong with them.

The only think that really bothers me on TS is when people get on here and lie and use some pretty abusive lanuage "virtually shouting down" people who dont agree with them ( before you say it, I know you didnt do that here)

Why cant some kids play for the other RI teams or SE MA teams? If some posters had their way BS would get to play town teams in SC every year. BS is riding a wave right now, all waves crest and then go down, theirs will too. They had an amazingly successful year in 2011. I am sure it was a wake up call to many of the other local clubs, some of whom were used to winning their fair share of SC's.
