she's on a little-known team, the RI Rays U39 team, which wins nearly every game they play.

it's also the only older age group in which Bayside is willing to play the Rays.

The Rays are gone. This board is now devoted to knocking Bayside. No need to metion that old team that disbanded. There's a new "top dog" in RI.

Nobody should try to take that away.

What it comes down to, however, is the use of the RI Cup as a forum for luring players.

Bayside could very well win every state cup in the boys and girls age groups. That doesn't mean that a good RI player shouldn't consider traveling over the border to the north for a Stars or NEFC, to the East for an NEFC or Scorpions, or the the West to a CFC, Oakwood. At these clubs, the players will get better training and better exposure at better tournaments, or in some cases levels of tournaments. The staffs and teams at these clubs are simply stronger than any RI club has to offer.

The Elite RI players will be hamstrung by the state they live in, the very elite should be less concerned about being the best in RI, and more concerned about exposure to higher levels of play, better coaching, and better exposure to college coaches and other identification opportunities. Even playing for the RI state team is a burden for these players at the ID camp, being from RI is a stain on them from the very beginning.

So all of the above is true. It doesn't demean the meaning or accomplishment of a state championship at all. It's just a matter of how does an elite player stay on top and keep improving his or her situation.
I found this funny with all the talk on TS about how some think Bayside isn't on par with MA and CT but yet a well respected website placed 6 players from bayside FC Bolts on NorthEast Team of the Month. Like I said before the boys side is already on par with MA and CT and the girls will be if you would give them some time, I know that some M*******s are going to piont out that the rest of the team is made up of star's and scorp and Nefc but must mean siomthing for us to be listed with them. Congratz kids and go Bayside!

The Bayside United U14 girls lost to Galway Rovers from Massachusetts. Do you have any clue how average that team is? Of course not. You're RI state champs.

RI parents are so far behind in knowledge about this stuff it's frightening. If you're looking for success at RI State Cup then you are shopping for the WRONG stuff.

You should be looking for a club with good coaching first. This is where RI gets it wrong for the most part, they are looking for RI State Cups but forget to develop players. Next you should be looking for a team that has similar ability players and desire to compete at a higher level than RI state cup.

Right now, the answer is look beyond RI. Until RI clubs get their acts together, RI is a dead zone for club soccer. Subpar coaching and organization. Get away. You live in RI. It's a small state. Better clubs are not that far away.
Bayside also beat Galway this year in NEFC tournament. Interesting that the "Average" Galway knocked out FC Stars from State Cup last year but we RI'rs should be driving to MA because the soccer is so much better. Please.

I love the status parents from other states assign to themselves because of where they live.

Fact is, on most days even the best teams in New England are only separated from the pack by a goal. Were talking teenage girls - the variability is huge. There are very few elite teams that can claim some sort of supremacy in coaching.

Beyond Scorps G16 there's no other powerhouse in New England so get over yourselves whther you play in MA or CT.

So true, my daughter's team plays in Mass and guess what? The 'average' Rhode
Island coach and team (as the out of State parent(s) put it) was able to win many more games than they lost. And, as for coaching, take a hard look as to what is out there in Mass for example. Heavy emphasis on winning at the expense of berating teenage girls for their mistakes. That is hardly the way to instill confidence in girls who in the future will likely need the POSITIVE molding of a coach to apply in a business/work setting as opposed to on the athletic field. That said, so looking forward to beating up on the arrogant Mass-hole coaches once again.

                        This isn't a true statement.

Stars of MA beat Galway 7-0 in a game that wasn't that close to advance to the State Cup round robin.

Last year, Stars of MA were upset by Nova. Game to game things happen.

But you need to do a couple of things. First, you need to get your facts straight before you post. And second, you need to stop comparing Bayside to the better Massachusetts clubs. If you want to say Bayside is consistently in the same league as Galway Rovers, I would agree with you. That is about the level of Bayside from a coaching and talent perspective.

I guess you can't bring yourself up to acknowledging that Bayside Bolts on the boys side is on par or better than the some of the top Mass club so all you have is this one liner that the Bayside girls are on par only with the likes of Galway. You know what for a program that just got full teams on the girls Bayside is doing better than any RI clubs including yours belove club. Like it or not you will never be better than Bayside as much as you think you are or try to be. As for the Mass posters here the same goes to you. We acknowledge than Bayside will never get to the level of Stars of Mass, Scorpions, and NEFC yet because they are well established clubs for girls and some of them belong to the exclusive ECNL. But how knows what the future may hold.

Your making my point - Bayside beat Galway twice in tourney play this year, tied Nova. Nova beat FC Stars last year - not a lot of difference in most teams in NE.

No one is claiming Bayside is a PDA or Matchfit Chelsea but they can pretty much play with anyone in NE. BTW your "average" Galway is ranked 4th in MA for U14 - so that says the competition isn't nearly as good as you think on a whole in Mass or you were wrong about Galway?
