Let me see. 6-7 girls that were on the team plus 1 R1 ODP pool player and 6 rays players. I would say that is a pretty strong group.

Why do kids leave Bayside, um how about:

It costs 2,000 a year and if your kid sucks, they aren't going to play a lot.

      1. They don't let helicoptering parents weasel their way into the coaching decisions.

      2. They focus on a style of play that promotes possession/skill - contrary to what the average knucklehead RI parent thinks is good for their striker daughter - SEND IT SEND IT!!!

      3. Top competitive teams turn over kids because they attract better ones each year and some kids/parents want to be a star on a lesser team - which is fine.

Save for a couple one-off teams/coaches, if you want your kid to have the best coaching, facilities, and competition along with some administrative infrastructure without travelling out of RI - Bayside is your only option.

They aint FC Stars or anything else - but they are RIs best hope to produce solid teams to compete on a Regional basis in the next five years.

funny, since the "helicoptering" parents that left certain other RI teams (because their daughters weren't getting the playing time they thought they deserved but didn't) ended up at Bayside.

Is a helicoptr parent the same as a parent that embarasses the rest of the team on the sideline? And does possession/skill mean "don't ever pass the ball no matter what"

I had a close look at some baysiders at the Rider Cup. Yes to all of the above.

Regional? Please stop. No Bayside girls team has ever stepped out of the lowly Maple structure. Your club is a long way from making a decent showing outside of Maple/NEP.

hard to imagine why this bayside cheering section has formed. You have Bruno and Blackwatch at a number of age groups on the girls side that will give bayside some good competiton--not to mention the boys side as well. New coaches and revamped rosters will be featured this spring. No more Rays to worry about , but other clubs have made big steps forward, in may cases with players leaving the "regional Powerhouse" of Bayside.

Bayside is way too expensive, they don't have the program to justify the expense.

They don't have the reputation of development to justify the expense. None of the current coaches have experience developing top players, particularly on the girls side.

They have the classic RI problem of having some good talent at the younger age groups, but without the coaching sophistication these players plateau around 13 or 14, and that means the elite players have to leave to reach the next level.

At this point, the only reason to play for Bayside is to guarantee success at RI State Cup. if you want your son or daughter to either develop or play at the higher levels, you cannot choose Bayside.

There will be competitions come this season. May the best teams win. But purely on data and history, Bayside is the best club right now and until Bruno, Blackwatch can have a good showing at SC there are never on par with Bayside. Granted there are players moving from club to club and there are few Bayside who made the switch to Bruno and Blackwatch for what ever reasons we should wish them the best of luck. As for the parents on this blog talk all you want because this is TS but have some respect for those that have earned the right to be the best in RI for this year whether you like it or not.

For Bayside, this is after all a blog for Bayside haters so expect that they will throw everything at you just to get your blood going. But you know what you are still the champion for this year because you earned it.

See this is where people just look stupid for a couple different reasons:

                      1. Girls program has literally been up two years - this makes it sound like they've been chasing titles in Maple D3 for years. Quick glance shows U14Gs last year finished second in D2 which would likely promote them to D1 this year. Likely they'll have 7-8 teams playing in sub-regionals or regional premier.

                      2. They sent 8 teams to Regionals including a couple to semi's.

Bitch all you want but until you can show some data that there is a better club in RI TODAY, Bayside is the premier RI soccer club hands down.

Even if a decent player comes and goes, past 14 it's all about the collective team skill and Bayside will keep attracting the best kids in the state, especially if they are looking to get to Regionals at the college ages.

If you know anything about soccer - you want your kid in the Bayside program. Most of these complainers are parens who cant afford it, kid didn't make it or most likely, they played at Bayside, sucked, got no time, and couldn't adopt the style of play.

Where would you suggest they go in Rhode Island? My daughter has played for couple of the clubs in RI and I might add Bayside is by far the best choice I made. I played the game and know the game well enough than most parents on this posting. Case in point, this year U14, They were a town team who came to Bayside with little or technical skill. In 1 1/2 year they are now SC Champion. That is a turnaorund many club dies for. Most clubs here have players playing for them 4-5 years and have little to show for.

If not guaranteeing success at RI SC than what else are you looking for. SC allows players to move on the regional and opportunities to play against some of the top teams in Region 1. You must be referring to ECNL and DAP then tell me what RI club belong to the league? Remember that affiliation with Greater Boston Bolts. The whole pupose wiht that affiliation is to allow better Bayside players in U15 and up opportunities to move beyond Bayside so that the players will have greater exposure and elite training. Can you say that about other RI clubs.

This is probably the same guy that used to post that RI state cup was meaningless.

So, who did they beat to win the Rhode Island State Cup?

The Bayside United U14 girls lost to Galway Rovers from Massachusetts. Do you have any clue how average that team is? Of course not. You're RI state champs.

RI parents are so far behind in knowledge about this stuff it's frightening. If you're looking for success at RI State Cup then you are shopping for the WRONG stuff.

You should be looking for a club with good coaching first. This is where RI gets it wrong for the most part, they are looking for RI State Cups but forget to develop players. Next you should be looking for a team that has similar ability players and desire to compete at a higher level than RI state cup.

Right now, the answer is look beyond RI. Until RI clubs get their acts together, RI is a dead zone for club soccer. Subpar coaching and organization. Get away. You live in RI. It's a small state. Better clubs are not that far away.

I didn't say it's meaningless, it's an honor to be best in your state, and I would never take that away from the kids.

But being State Cup champions and not being capable of beating teams like Crusaders and Galway Rovers in MAPLE are different arguments. Being State Cup champions is an honor. Not beating Crusaders and Galway means you are on an average team.

RI has to get the average out of it's system.
