If you look at the MA, CT and other state cup tournaments, there are long lists of teams involved. In RI you might play 2 preliminary games and then maybe two more to win the whole thing.

I'm with you when it comes to calling anything a "joke". Clearly that persons kid LOST.
I agree with you that it isn't the same as the other states but it wasa big deal to my kid who got to compete and play in the championship game. Even though we lost my child will remember the game for a long time to come and to call it a "joke" was just being spiteful.

It is the same! You got to go to the same tournament that every other Region 1 state cup winner attended. You might have even played more games in the RI state cup playoffs than ME, VT, NH or DE.

good point. There are probably 5 states (including WV as metinoned in a different post) that have the same, if not fewer, games to determine their state cup.

It's silly to look at the RI state cup as a joke. It's fun and an honor to be the best in your state.

Nobody should try to take that away.

What it comes down to, however, is the use of the RI Cup as a forum for luring players.

Bayside could very well win every state cup in the boys and girls age groups. That doesn't mean that a good RI player shouldn't consider traveling over the border to the north for a Stars or NEFC, to the East for an NEFC or Scorpions, or the the West to a CFC, Oakwood. At these clubs, the players will get better training and better exposure at better tournaments, or in some cases levels of tournaments. The staffs and teams at these clubs are simply stronger than any RI club has to offer.

The Elite RI players will be hamstrung by the state they live in, the very elite should be less concerned about being the best in RI, and more concerned about exposure to higher levels of play, better coaching, and better exposure to college coaches and other identification opportunities. Even playing for the RI state team is a burden for these players at the ID camp, being from RI is a stain on them from the very beginning.

So all of the above is true. It doesn't demean the meaning or accomplishment of a state championship at all. It's just a matter of how does an elite player stay on top and keep improving his or her situation.

If this was facebook, I would click on "Like."

Players and families should not use RI State Cup as a part of their decision on which club to choose.

There are actually some teams in RI that go to those same tournaments with the CFCs, NEFCs, etc, and win the tournaments. Look for those teams and you'll save yourself a lot of time and money.

If your trying to imply that bayside cant win big tournaments, your wrong. WHile maybe they have not had the success that they will have in the future, there is a strong likelihood that now that they are in NEP, Bayside will rise to the top raginla ranks in all age groups. RI has a strong and good club in the Bayside Botls, and not the BAyside FC.

Compare Bayside to other New England premier clubs, I would say we are doing pretty well. Who can say their clubs have produced 4 professional caliber players. As for quality of coaches, let me ask you what does these clubs have that some of the top clubs in RI does not have?

Why don't you do me a favorite and go look at Gotsoccer Ranking for Region 1. Not too shabby for a small state.

                              Example-Region 1 Northeast League: finished Bayside U14 2nd place CFC 3rd place.

I can only compare the boys side since Bayside girls only been around for less than two years or so.

Please remind me which current coaches were involved in the development of those players again?
