    This is very true.

So maybe we shouldn't bother. Next year I'll just tell my kid the whole thing is a joke and she shouldn't waste her time playing.

I guess a better measure of success is at the regional. I don't remember seeing any CFC team moving into the semi-final. I know CT may have better competitions as a state but as a club what you did or didn't do say alot about your club. Based on regional, CFC is not the top dog in CT given Oakwood has more teams at the regional and better showing. So cry all you want but if you are not the SC then you are not the SC. Bayside is built to compete beyond RI's border with the likes of CFC. Stars of MA is in a league of their own when it comes to the girls side. Beyond that they are just another club on the boys side.

How does one explian this one? I am not a BW parent .I saw this on the Mass forum

Black Watch Premier placed 3 more players into the New England Revolution Academy (R R, L A and G F). This makes 11 placements in the past 2 years - well done everybody!

My explanation would be that 3 excellent players from Blacwatch went to the New England Revolution Academy.

RI Boys teams yes girls not yet but I agrre we have to give Bayside girls some more time.

U13 boys from bayside have finished 1st back to back season in Maple 1st D and have beat the best from MA more then once they have also lost to the best in MA. U14 boys always finsh in top half pf the Bracket and have beat NEFC 1-0 and lost 1-0 this year. U12 boys have also done well in MA as for CT I know 14's have beat and loss to oakwood FSA beat beachside> its fair to say they can playy with anyone! and they all boys and girls beat up on Maine and NH VT!

According to census data, CT has 3.5-4 x the youth population of RI (between 6-17 yo). Assuming a bit of a normal distribution in the age/gender, then you expect CT would have 3.5 - 4 x the number of teams (seems about that)..and if you figure the average balance between premier/competitive teams that go for state cup should be about the same, then you should app. 4x the number of teams.

Didn't look at all age groups, but in the one I follow (U14G), that seems to hold. In U17 girls, the balance is way more to CT; however in U16G, the balance (proportionally) is more toward RI. Actually, the number of games is about the same as well where the proportions hold.

You can argue that the aggregate larger numbers means the semifinalists are probably better in total quality in the larger state, but I suspect like most areas, there is a concentration of top clubs in proportion to the population/geography. In some cases, the # 2 - 4 team from larger state would be better than the # 1 from smaller state so perhaps the "wildcard" system could be better (although even a couple of teams from CT finished in the cellar as well).

Perhaps when ODP becomes history as eventually all the U17 national players are identified through the DA or whatever emerges as the equivalent on the girls side, then the need to organize regional/national championship by states will also be history.

Ask DA how they got there. RR is a good player but I don't know the other 2.

I am not the poster you were commenting on, but you have to admit that winning the Sate Cup in RI does no mean too much. Not that it isn't fun to win and then participate in the Regional event.

If you look at the MA, CT and other state cup tournaments, there are long lists of teams involved. In RI you might play 2 preliminary games and then maybe two more to win the whole thing.

I'm with you when it comes to calling anything a "joke". Clearly that persons kid LOST.

True--it doesn't matter how many temas you have to play in order to win state cup. The next step is the same whether you have to play only 1 team to advance to regionals or 50 teams to advance to regionals. You still get the chance to advance to regionals. Therefore, the RI state cup is worth the exact same thing as any other state's state cup. Got Soccer has figured out the fact that the competitoin may not be as fierce, and that's why teams dont get as many points for winning the cup, but the winners still advance, therefore it is actually to one's advantage to get to play in RI. THe only joke is the guy who hasn't figured that out yet.

I think your misinterpreting my post. It's true that if you win the RI State Cup that you get to go to the regional event, but actually winning the RI State Cup carries little or no weight. It really isn't as good as winning in another state. With that being said it doesn't mean that I wouldn't want my kids team win and get to go to the regional event. I think it would be a blast.
