They did on day 1 but it's pool play, the gift was an extra two points and full goal differential went to Oakwood. So instead of all all teams being in contention still on Sunday, Oakwood was through to semis the minute R1 decided to give them a forfeit instead of ending the game in a tie.

Let me be clear, it was not Oakwoods fault, it was the out of control Baltimore PSC coAches but unfair to everyone in the bracket including Maine who played a he'll of a game vs Maryland.

      Why was there a forfeit?

Baltimores Asst Coach was thrown out of game Friday so he was not on bench on Saturday. Baltimore head coach was then thrown out of game on Saturday with 10 minutes left leaving no one to coach team. Field marshal called game as a tie, later in day Oakwood was declared winner by forfeit.

As painful as that was for your team, it was the right call. We have some coaches around here like that too!

It was the right call to throw him out as he was the most obnoxious coach I've ever seen but the way they handled the impact on other teams was a joke.

First they declared a tie at the field on Saturday afternoon.
Then Saturday night they posted Oakwood won by forfeit. This eliminated everyone else.
On Sunday, after the games were complete and Oakwood won their third game - R1 held up a Maryland protest and reversed its earlier decision and made the Saturday game a tie. That decision made no difference after the fact as Oakwood had won all 3 games.

If the protest had been ruled on prior to Sunday's games, three teams were still in it. The teams should have been playing to win regardless but instead of it being like a game 7 on Sunday AM it was more like a consolation game. If Bayside was 1 pt behind leader instead of eliminated, I'm sure coaching, subs, and heart would have been different as it would have been for Maryland.

Not saying it would have changed things but it could have and it's crappy that R1 staff put all the teams in this situation.

Here are the results for all RI clubs at the Regional:

              Bayside FC Bolts 11-13-3
              Bruno United 3-10-2
              Rays 0-4-2
              Fortuna 0-3-0

Summary - Three Bayside teams made it to the semi-final. The U14 and U15 boys were a disappointment. They went 0-6-0. They garnered 50% of the total losses. The Ray U13 has a good showing with 1 loss and 2 ties. The loss was against PDA, 4th ranked team in the nation. Bruno was a disappointment with a winning percentage of 20%. As a State we won 25% of our games. With a 1:3 ratio that is not good.

                Thanks for the research.

But were the games well played? Getting beat by 2 or less is a close game in my mind. Were there close misses that could have changed the outcome?

The games that were in the7-0 range are a concern because typically those type of blow-outs point to a weak midfield. So your stronger players are getting smoked.

Corrections. Bayside U12 0-4 0-3 2-0. The Bayside U14 had a strong showing for a first year team. They could have won their game against Oakwood have they put 2 of those open net goals. Same with Maryland. Can't seen to put the ball in the net.

                        U14G Bayside:

Gave up an "own" goal to Oakwood to lose 0-1 on Friday. Played good first half, Oakwood ran them in circles in 2nd half with strong possession and ball movement in the middle.

Played best game of the year vs Maine - a big strong team who came into game with a lot of momentum by upsetting '10 regional Champ Maryland on Friday. Final score of 3-1 with Maine's lone goal coming off a direct kick from 25 yards which deflected off the head of a player in the wall, changed direction under crossbar. Bayside frequently strung together multiple passes and demoralized the Maine team.

Lost 0-2 to Maryland - didn't show up in first half - outhustled and outhearted on every 50-50. Stronger second half, much more aggressive and had Maryland on their heels for a little bit. Missed an open net after getting in alone behind goalie and dinged a post from 15 yards out. Let distraction of Maryland forfeit and 8 AM game get in way of first half.

Overall they played well but as with most young teams, they were not mentally prepared to play at this level for three consecutive days and did not finish on the limited scoring opportunities they had while their competition did.

Overall, allowing 4 goals (of which 2 were off Bayside players) versus 3 decent teams was not too bad.

Generally going 1-2 is not bad for RI..considering that an average draw in a 4 team group would have probably 1 team from VT/NH/ME/DE and "on average/all other things equal", the teams from the larger states/region are more likely to win...and on the tail draws where you get 2 teams from areas of potentially equal competition, you also get a draw with 3 teams from all strong areas.

I would measure more how RI teams did against VT/NH/ME/DE/WVA..until the market corrects (ie. Rays fold, etc.) or one team is able to really put almost a monopoly on an age group, it will be hard after U12 to have a regional winner. But, congrats to all the teams for their seasons and an extra kudo to Bayside for an almost .500 percentage..
