You have to be joking... right? There isn't a team in RI that is even remotely close to the ECNL entrants from Massachusetts, either in top end talent, talent depth, technical ability or tactical capability. The top teams in Mass. are made up entirely of D1 college calibre players and some have 2 or 3 NT/NP players - just like the top teams from NJ, ENY, EPA Maryland and Virginia. BTW, I looked back and in the last decade Rhode Island has had a single girls team progress out of the RR at Regionals. That was the 2003 Rays U16s, playing at home (@URI) and out of a group with WNY, CT and NH. That is 1 for 60, worst in the region.

You need to stop living in the past. The Rays' glory days are over. I know it is hard to let go but you need to because the Rays you know are bygone. I'm pretty sure there are couple players on these teams that have RI players. Also the boys side are doing ok the last time I checked. 45 ranked team in the nation says alot about what RI is capable of producing.

I have to agree with this post that there are no teams in RI that come close to any of the ECNL entrants (or DAP) for that matter in MA. You might get one great team out of RI every ten years or so, but great around here is mediocre at best in the Region. My original point was that if all the top players in RI played on one team we'd have a pretty good competition, but then again, if all the top talent in the other states were on the same teams they'd cream us. I guess if you're one of those rare "super" players you have no choice but to go to MA. That doesn't mean we should all stop trying to compete at the highest level possible. Look at the Jamaican Bobsled Team, they had fun didn't they?? :)

If that is your argument VT, NH, ME is part of MA. But NH has a DAP program. CT has a DAP and they are either part of NY or MA depending how you define market.

Many of the best players from southern NH (including some on national teams) play for Massachusetts clubs. It is very common. Although Seacoast is an excellent club, and has had some limited success on the regional level, it is probably more likely that a top NH player will migrate to Massachusetts. In contrast, there have been occasional players from the Springfield MA area to play for CFC in Conn., although not common because Western U, Pioneers and Stars have been other solid options. Vermont and Maine are less likely because of the travel distance, although there are occasional examples of top players from those states migrating to the top Massachusetts clubs - even an example of a NP player from Maine with the Scorpions on the MA south shore. That is a long commute! But you also have far fewer players from Maine, Vermont (or RI) that are capable of competing at the top level of club, whether they are willing to commute or not. That is just a matter of population and demographics. For example, in any given year there will be about 20 girls from RI playing in D1, most of whom will be with in-state teams URI and Bryant. That is about the same as Maine. Massachusetts will have between 150-175 girls playing in D1 each year and NJ 225+. If you are a girl from RI, and want college exposure, you either need to make headway into the Regional Pool, or go play for a Massachusetts team that will play in some good showcases. Its that simple.

You need to check the rosters of the D1 schools in RI.

Bryant girls -- 21 girls, only 3 from RI..6 from NJ, 4 from MA

Providence Girls -- Only 2 from RI

URI Women - Only 5 out of 21

Brown - Heck, only 4% of the kids from Brown are from RI so I suspect the number of RI kids on either of the soccer teams are 0..maybe 1 on a good year.

going to hershey with my family this year, and really looking forward to it. it'll be a great experience for all the girls, and we're all pulling for them to do well--not only our team, but all the bayside teams and the rays u13's as well! it'd be nice to have a decent showing to show the region that little rhody can field some competitive teams. also hoping for a couple of wins for our team to shut you up, you joke. you'd think you'd be a little supportive of a bunch of kids excited for the regionals and playing their hearts out and keep your petty and idiotic comments to yourself.
