Did that Bayside parent just diss another u12 team. I agree GET OVER YOUSELF..... ITS u12. Can you Imagine being surrounded at Bayside with parents like that. You should do your club a favour and stop writing on this forum. Are you a PAYING Bayside parent or does your kid play for free ... and you carry a blackberry, your kids wear abercrombie.. oh yea and you drive a new car... while some sap pays $2000 grand.

Are you suggesting that onesome have to carry a blackberry, wear abercrombie, drive a new car and be a paid parent in order to defend their club?

Wow! Some people should be ashamed of what they post on here. We are adults aren't we.

Don't confuse Bayside with ODP parents.

Their kid can't start on a third-tier premier team in a tiny state, but if they write the $1,500 check the kid will make RI ODP and earn an invite to Regional ID Camp.

Say whatever you want - Bayside went 8-0 on State Championship Sunday and riding to the game in their dad's BMW or wearing an A&F shirt had nothing to do with it.

Their building a club that wins through good coaching, skill development, and setting high expectations.

If the people in USYSA Region 1 weren't pro-little state (I wonder why?) they would have required RI., Maine, Vermont and West Virginia to have a play-in tourney for a single spot and invite three deserving "wild-card" entrants from the bigger states. Just another example of how R1 is a joke.

So true... the only times that you see Rhody's girls teams reach the SFs is if they luck into a group with three other meaningless states.

Love you all for supporting your State Cup teams. I know it is difficult seeing anything beyond RI. They do say small state breed small minded people.

RI is a joke because we got jokers like you who pretends they love youth soccer while sucking the life out of this sport. It is people like you who can't see this sport beyond your little precious town or premier club. It is people like you that we are where we are. Don't just come on this forum and start your vile hatred posting. Look the kids compete and they won the right to represent the State. At least give them the support they deserve. You all should be asking why RI teams do not fair well at regional and try to put a systems in place so all our kids can succeed maybe not now but in the near future. Look our teams failed in regional competitions because we adults failed them. It is not the skill levels of other states but the support system they have. Our kids are as such talented as the other kids from other states.

I agree with your post, but there just is not enough talent to go around in RI. The pool is spread way too thin. Too many clubs, too many options leaves most teams very thin with talent. The Rays used to compete very well at regionals when they were the only option on the Girls side. They had an A,B and C team in every age and all the talent wanted to be on the A team. There is enough talent in RI to support this type of system. The problem is that egos, personality, etc...get in the way and everyone wants to go and form their own premier team/club everytime something doesn't go their way. A State the size of RI can compete if the talent is consolidated, but those days are gone forever, leaving the real talented kids no choice but to move to MA teams to find teammates of equal caliber. IMO it's too bad, but I guess a free market system is what everyone wants. When you see associations like South County (no disrespect to SC) with that many teams playing State Cup Finals Weekend, you have to wonder if we've watered down the premier talent pool beyond the point of no return

I agreed with some of the points you made but having watched Scorpions and Stars of Mass played, the skill levels are not that far apart from some of the top teams we have here in RI from a technical stand. Talent alone don't won. Teams that are able to utilize their technical skills with tactical training is what win games. You are right. Parents and ego are a major problem here in RI. Because we are small state it magnifies. South County is another story onto itself. They are a hybrid club who want the best of both worlds. They want to dominate SuperLiga and a chnace to foray into premier competitions when it suites them. But I must give them a lot of credit for building a strong club that should be able to dominate SuperLiga into the near future. It is when they blow too much hot airs and think they can compete with premier clubs is when I have problem with. For most part, each of their teams have 3-4 premier caliber players but the rest of the teams are not. Plus most of the SC teams I saw play kick and run style which are not suited for high level competitions.

Parents and kids are part of the problem but honestly what do you expect parents to do when every option stinks.

Rays were dominant but it was probably back when they gave a crap about building something professional and it warranted parent's time and money. To pay to be part of a premier club and not have dedicated practice fields is ridiculous along with constantly rotating coaches.

I think this is why people move around so much - once there is a consistently, professionally administered premier club who can start to build out clubs at various age-groups at a comparative price, you will have one club dominate RI.

Right now, the only one even close to having a shot is Bayside - all the other clubs are too small with one or two teams and/or run by the seats of their pants.

I agree that RI could do much better with more consolidation in premier landscape. Let's hope that free-market principles take hold and someone emerges.

You have to be joking... right? There isn't a team in RI that is even remotely close to the ECNL entrants from Massachusetts, either in top end talent, talent depth, technical ability or tactical capability. The top teams in Mass. are made up entirely of D1 college calibre players and some have 2 or 3 NT/NP players - just like the top teams from NJ, ENY, EPA Maryland and Virginia. BTW, I looked back and in the last decade Rhode Island has had a single girls team progress out of the RR at Regionals. That was the 2003 Rays U16s, playing at home (@URI) and out of a group with WNY, CT and NH. That is 1 for 60, worst in the region.
