    2011 Regionals

Figured we'd start a thread for predictions, draws, and scores from this year's Regional tournament in Pennsylvania.

Looking at the grids - it appears there are only 8 states participating in Boys U12 (11v11). In that case, of all the RI teams heading down to PA, I'm going with Bayside U12 as the team most likely to progress past Sunday play - regardless of how the draw ends up.

Schedules will be released on Region I Website on June 22nd.

That's because most states wait to play their state cup semis/finals until..warmer weather, better fields, closer to the actual date of the tournament, spring leagues have finished, etc..

Here in RI SuperLiga is too big of a tournament so they want all the State Cup to be done with before SuperLiga playoff start in mid to late June.

And other than the South County teams, how many State Cup entrants are also in SuperLiga? At least why not wait until 5-6 June..SL season is ending that weekend so no conflict with SL tournament..

Here is why it won't work. June 11-12 is SuperLiga Championship. June 18-19 is reserved just in case SuperLiga rain-out on the 11th and 12th. SRI RI Cup on June 25-26. Again, no room for State Cup.

According to SL website, SL championships are held on Sat June 11th only at BGYSA. Still do not understand why State Cup can't be held with semi-finals on 5 or 6 June and finals on 12 June..at worst, you might have a couple of teams from SL anchor who make both (except for SC U13G..and doubtful they'll be in the U14 SL anchor championship..are there any others this year?)

You can stretch out the qualifying game period so you avoid silly situations where teams are playing 2 games in a day or 3-4 games in one week..would have better control over referees (side note - am I just in the tail of the distribution, but attended my 4th MAPLE game in a row where there were less than 3 refs that showed up)

I am still at a loss how a 1 day tournament where almost none of the teams are involved with State Cup dictates what is supposed to be the State Association's highest level tournament?

That is a issue SRI needs to deal with. In most States, they assigned an order of importance to the tournaments so that if decision need to be made event like the State Cup comes first. Unfortunate that is not the case here in RI.

Since RI has two slot in the U12ss, does this mean South County will be going to the Regional as the second or wildcard team from RI?

Yes South County goes as the wild card, but if you listen to Bayside Daddy, all teams should cede to Bayside so they can get the well deserved development experience they are entitled to.

Look, the Bayside has earned their spot to the Regional and you just got in with a wildcard spot. Should be thankful. No one is entitled to anything but you got to give credits to the Bayside U11 team because they just beaten your U12 to earn their right to Regional.
