Go to Western States threads and carry on about that. Northeast kids play against Northeast competition for the vast majority of their time. If you want to choose your club based on the fact that California and other Western soccer is strong go ahead but your a fool.

They had ECNL and GDA and their talent was split. Of course that was going to happen. After just one year they went back to ECNL.

The west coast has better GDA because it's a massive state, better soccer culture and better clubs. For years more if the nation's top talent (NT NT callups and top D1 picks) came from there. Even within CA SoCal is more GDS and NoCal ECNL

Besides who cares what is happening in other regions?. The vast majority of your competition is local, if you can even call up and down the eastern seaboard "local". Playing local mediocre teams doesn't do much for development.. At national events, if you're a lower level team you're going to play lower level teams from other regions - and miss 4 days of school/work pay dearly $ for it. More importantly, mediocre local coaching definitely doesn't develop players, and there's plenty of that here.

These tournaments are just another example of DA just not getting it. It’s hard enough to miss two days of school for these kids let alone a week. Just terrible.

I also don’t see them changing much. But, if MLS clubs leave, then the BDA looses its status big time and that will trickle down to the girls side. Change has been constant and will continue to be. Hearing ECNL is considering big changes as well. We will see.......

ECNL may go back to grade year base teams. Makes total sense - better for all teh trapped players and recruiting.

4 days missed of schedule is absurd - wrap it around a weekend so kids/parents only have to miss Friday and Monday

If a kid falls so far behind by missing a week of school that it becomes an issue Mom and Dad should be paying for tutors and not soccer.

Don't forget there's 2 other events to attend anymore missed days(depending on when your kid finishes school in June). Then there's school visits if they're in recruiting mode. Sick days too. Sure most work can eventually be made up, but why make it more difficult? Kids have enough academic pressure as it is.

No way ECNL changes age groups. The whole world is aligned now.

Or they do it to help differentiate from the rest. Simplifies recruiting, which is done by grade and recruiting is largely what ECNL is about, and players aren't stuck.

And yet I saw several kids from this area playing U20 International soccer and doing pretty well vs 2 of the better teams in the world. Players will find their own level.

Really. We don’t really need a tutor, thank goodness, but missing a week of AP work in multiple classes will absolutely be an issue to a student, even an excellent one.

Yep, and our student is going to have to get back up to speed. And, she will.

Heck, she could quit at anytime. One never knows, but for sure she will quit some day.

Most of my D's AP teachers are awful, so missing a week isn't a huge deal other than having to reschedule tests/quizzes/assignments. At least on the road with her teammates she gets good study groups in the hotel.

AP on a college application is WAY more valuable than having the DA or whatever it will be called in two years.
