    Great point!

Leave the town travel team and schoolmates to drive 45 minutes to WC = OK
Don't play on your town HS team to drive 45 minutes to NYSC = Not OK

    Hmmm.....

If that's what kids really want to do they're free to chose it. But for something that US Soccer claims is so terrible there sure are a lot of kids trying to play HS soccer, legally or illegally. What also gets people is that it's dictated,, there's little proof it makes any difference, and for 99.5% of players it's completely unnecessary.

Define "necessary". Who makes that determination on what is "necessary"?

As for the # of kids playing HS, sure. That's how a pyramid works.

Yes. No doubt quality schools are expensive. But those areas you mentioned are also not where gda is wildly popular. I just think when families care paying an arm and a leg for their schools and programs and they want their kids to benefit. They are not thrilled to watch other families partake while us soccer tells them ..too bad about the giant tax bill but no school soccer for you.

Obviously there are exceptions but for many families in these high tax areas, that does not go over well.

What do the families of kids do who don't participate in school sports? Are they getting the shaft because they don't get the benefit?

Taxes that support schools go to so much more than sports. Ask any parent and what they care about most is the quality of instruction and how well their kids are prepared for college/adulthood. So that mean qualified teachers, administrators, a deep curriculum, ECs etc. Sports is way down the list for some families, just like the arts is way down the list for others. Our district has a top notch theater program but I've yet to go to one production. But I know it's really important to many students and it's good for the community, so I'm fine with a few of my tax dollars paying for it. If the theater union (or whoever) said kids can't do HS plays any longer because one day one of them might become a professional? Yeah, I'd think that's pretty messed up.

Is the us math association telling them no school math club? Does the national drama association say no school productions allowed?

I am just saying that we all fund these programs in the schools and people resent it when they are told they are not permitted to take advantage after funding them. You don't resent it clearly but these tax bills are very burdensome for most families. They want to use what the schools offer be it sports or music or science, etc.

That's beyond a stretch. High tax areas = more affluent families = greater demands for school excellence (in all facets) = higher concentration of club soccer players (and all extra curriculars for that matter).

Imo it factors into the resentment of this us soccer keafue. You have a different opinion

well lets see...since our WNT have won how many world Cups? All the girls on the WNT played HS Ball, every single player ever on any championship team played HS (that means every one). so saying that its necessary for a kid not to play HS if they want to reach the top of the soccer mountain is completely BS!!!

Why doesn't the DA work on LI?

Right, because when making a decision on choosing HS or GDA, they....oh...wait....that's right.....

So, the kids who WANT to use it, but can't...what happens to them?

The tax argument takes the cake on the most stupid I've heard from the anti-GDA crowd. But, I have faith in due time, one of ya' will find a way to top it.

Why are you saying it does not work? They seem to have clubs, teams and players.

When the current mess over the fury suspensions settles, I would imagine things will continue on as usual. These clubs and leagues will sell their products to willing customers and life will go on.
