I don't think either league captures all the talent. I know of ECNL players on JV teams, I know of young ECNL players on varsity. I know of players who left good ECNL teams to move to GDA teams. I know of some who went the other way, too. To make a statement that GDA is only ECNL-cut players is just idiotic at best; slanderous at worst.

Combining the leagues and eliminating 25% of them would go a long way here.

Agree. And the regions have to do that for themselves as the leagues care about one thing...money and signing up players. In the Ne, I think ecnl has the edge.

I could care less about any of these leagues and they could care less about our players. Try to figure this out for your kid and good luck. but watch out for your player and her teammates as best you can. Do not expect the clubs and leagues to do that.

I agree that in the NE ECNL has the edge overall. In saying that, I think GDA has more of the worst teams and ECNL has the best teams. So, even when you take out those and look at the meat of the middle, ECNL still has a little better of the teams overall. Still some crap, but still better overall. It's not as big of a spread as most make it out to be, but still there.

And, I'm a GDA parent from another NE state who has experience in both leagues in various age groups over the last 3-4 years.

We never needed another national league. Changes yes, but not another league. Everything that has transpired was all predicted. Ultimately the blame lies with USSF.

I guess I should tell my kid that. She was an ECNL 4 year starter. What other life decisions should others leave up to you?

All strong players would be better off with one or the other of these leagues but not both. Not sure people care too much which one. A lot of the hard sell likely comes from the clubs themselves.

The high school thing is a problem. On LI and presumably many other areas in the NE, familes and communities are putting a lot of taxes and resources into public schools. These schools have strong academics, arts, sports, etc. And familes want to take advantage of their investments in the schools. They don't take too kindly to paying a giant tax bill and being told...." no school sports for you". Not sure the answer. The season is 10 weeks....maybe a little more if a team advances in playoffs play.

I would just advocate for dispensing with one or the other up these high end leagues and just tolerate the school ball for a few weeks.

We need another league, let’s call it the American League!

While we may not have needed another national league, we did need a league that was more available than what was there.

HS is a take it or leave it for us. Not anything to fret over, but my D would possibly play if she could, but no big deal she can't

Same here. My kid has a schoolmate and good friend who plays for an ECNL club. She hates playing HS, would rather just play ECNL through the year. But, she loves her club so doesn't want to move.

Always exceptions but I think many feel they pay through the nose for these schools and want to participate.

Other advantage to HS is that it includes lower income athletes on the rosters. My kid gets the chance to play with and against talent that could never afford to play ecnl or gda.
