What are we doing to find and facilitate their development? Ask US Soccer ..... It ain't happening. CDs parents were nuts but we were lucky they were. Apparently there are not that many CDs around large urban areas and we don't give a sh|t about the other 98% of America.
So, let's have US Soccer put programs in more geographic areas.

Then, we can complain how shltty the teams are there and wonder why they are putting clubs in all these rural areas.

Like it or not, they are trying to solve for the CD problem. As a result, you are going to have teams who overall may not be the best, but hopefully they can get a talented player or two.

How is US Soccer trying to solve it? As another said ODP used to give some kids outside of affluent more populated areas a shot at discovery. Now no one pays any attention to ODP and there's no effort put into it either. Residency programs cost big $. is US Soccer helping MLS clubs get them going? No. That's on their shoulders.

By putting clubs not concentrated just in metro areas, but rather geographically placed where more players can get to them in a reasonable distance. For example, today, CD wouldn't have as far to drive to play on a DA club

we can say this, say that, blame this guy, that guy, this organization or that organization but at the end of the day the Clint Dempseys, Carli Lloyds, Arnold Swarzengers (yes), Simone Biles, Serena Williams of this world all have one thing in common when you interview them.....THEY WORK THEIR _SSES OFF !!!!!!!

What Kids do you know of that are getting a work out in before school starts? What kids do you know of getting a work out in before they go to bed at night? What kids do you know that have the discipline required to do all the extra work required to improve their technique? Get Bigger, Stronger? Faster?

Everyone says they want to be a real champion (a world class athlete)...but the reality is only less than .001% are actually willing to do what ever it takes to reach their goals....

And yet we have thousands playing pretend mini-pro soccer with stupid travel and useless bells and whistles that are a waste of time money and energy. The stupid travel should be replaced with time spent improving skills, strength, speed.

Agree 1000% ... talent is created by the individuals ..... now riddle me this .... what is USSF doing to find them? They think they can train them 3x week ..... and make a tidy profit on top of that. USSF needs to get out of the business if training the masses and running youth leagues and dictating their training .... no one else in the world does this!!! Not any foreign soccer association, not NFL, not MLB, not NHL, USTA, PGA ..... kids like CD play every day all day whenever, wherever .... they get tremendously fit, tremendously technical, and tremendously creative. This can not happen with formal lecture 3x per week. Einstein did not become himself by attending high school and Pulisic would be a very good player with DA alone .... it was all of the extras he got over time and his own work and dedication that made him a top US player.

You expose the flaw in all of this..

Parents WANT all the bells and whistles BECAUSE you can simply buy respectability. Clubs WANT it because they can charge the "vanity" fee for it.

you cant buy real talent and the size of these leagues means that they HAVE to fill them with pretty average players.

No one has any incentive to re-invent the current system. It allows average players to pretend to be better than they are at a cost.

The USSF is just scouting the pools that exist. The pools are created by the Clubs. The Clubs cater to mediocrity because its how they get paid.

Until you can connect the development of players directly to the people that profit from them, this system will exist.

The ONLY reason the USSF are remotely involved is because the only potential profit center IS the WNT. They dont have the money to get involved at the level a country of this size would require , hence the role of the Clubs. That has led to huge political structures that would rather feed themselves than actually take risks to find talent.

                    And, my response is...so?

We don't NEED lots of bells and whistles that come with cars today, but we sure do like them. We don't NEED an iPhone X, but we sure do like them. We don't NEED $1,000 skis to ski the same trails we've been skiing on for a century, but we sure do like them. We don't NEED the 60" HDTV, but we sure do like them.

You are either part of the herd, or not. If you are, you accept it as it's something you have assigned a value to it and accept it. If you are not...whathefvck do you care then?

so what are YOU doing about it? What are YOU doing to separate yourself from the rest?

Other athletes are making it to the Pros....its not impossible as this happens everyday.

I'm not attacking you...I'm simply trying to show that it takes an extremely special person with the discipline required to reach their goals.

Great. A quote from someone about not taking shortcuts who admits to taking a shortcut (steroids).

where does it say i care? i told my daughter to decide what she wanted from the sport. I told her to be honest. Im under no illusions about what she is or is not and she is the only player i care about.

Im simply stating an opinion. Club soccer has a very limited correlation to actual talent.

I do nothing about it but teach my player to try not to get sucked into the wasteful nonsense and to focus in what is there that is of value. The travel is a problem because it comes along with what passes for higher level play so you have to do some if it. But I (any many other parents) resist wasteful add ons and extra travel beyond what is absolutely required.

if you do nothing about it...you are your own problem.

you can have excuses or you can have results...but you can't have both.

I give guidance to my player - maybe your guidance is nothing but mine is solid.
