Have yet to see any girls club worthy of that title. The boys MLS clubs are elite precisely because they are funded so having the money to buy into "elite" level is of no use there.

On the girls side, there is a subsidized program run by the red bulls RDS which I think could lay claim to elite status for the same reason. Players cant buy their way into it. But that is only supplementary for younger girls involved with LIJSL clubs so it is limited.

All the so called elite options on LI are pretty average IMO. They are selling the title elite but the programs are just businesses are not about elite soccer training or talent development.

Daughter is thinking of moving over to LISC with a couple of friends. I know they went through growing pains the past couple of years. Reading on the other thread captioned East Meadow is making me believe they are just like the rest of these large clubs. Also conflicted about her giving up school ball. Don't get it if you are allowed to do other programs like PDP, Rough Riders, Red Bulls why can't the kids play school ball?

You're not allowed to do those programs. Only your DA club. Of course some do it regardless. Giving up HS is a big decision. Given the current state of the league I would recommend waiting another year and see how it plays out. I certainly wouldn't recommend doing it for LISC.

You have to prioritize. Why are you moving to DA? What do you expect to get out of it? What do you expect to get out of playing HS?

There is no single right answer, though many will tell you there is. Each family is different.

DA has a philosophy that taking time away from it's season to play in an unstructured environment only hinders that players development.

HS has a philosophy that the social aspect of playing with, and in front of, peers is as much a requirement for development as what the game is teaching you.

My daughter prefers the first philosophy, as she can gain the social aspect through other means and wants to spend as much time with her teammates. That's only HER opinion. Some feel differently and that's fine as well.

I agree with the poster about High School soccer but not sure they are accurate with not being allowed to do other programs. Megan Frey is Doc and coach for some of the DA teams at lisc and she runs rough rider teams with DA players playing both DA thorough Lisc and RR.

Maybe the other poster is right. DA does not support high school ball and can’t see them
allowing da players to get involved in money grab programs

HS is also not nearly as exclusionary by family income so there is the opportunity to play soccer with players that could never afford to participate in any of these country club leagues.

True, but I wasn't looking at it from that perspective. Once you've gone fully into a Club environment, the costs are there no matter if you do DA, ECNL, NPL, what have you. Only DA excludes the HS and for the reason above.

If you are going to forego the Club environment altogether, then your valid point holds even more weight.

Everyone had different priorities and makes choices. Some clubs allow for HS and some do not and both are up to the individual player.

Just pointing out the my kid gets to play with and against some fine players that would never be found in any of these other club competitions or expensive supplementary programs.

                      Why wouldn't you recommend LISC?

Agreed and thank you for bringing it up. I didn't consider it

It is only one consideration. Youth soccer in the high end is deep in the bubble. Kid loves it but how do we get these kids out of the bubble and into reality? Not saying HS sports are out of the bubble but they are much more income diverse than club sports.

They lost teams after Year 1 because of bad performance, this year only one team was decent the other terrible. If you're going to do DA (which has it's own list of pros and cons) at least try to get into the best club in the system that's workable for commute, etc. The coaching matters, much more so than whatever patch is on your kid's uniform

Somewhat. I live in a rich town. It wasn't always that way (albeit never poor), not when I was growing up here. We went to the city next door for HS and I welcomed living outside the bubble. Made lifelong friends because of it.

Fast forward several years and we put in a HS. The town grows into it's reputation of being rich and snobby. HS is like Mean Girls. Club actually has MORE economic diversity than HS does. Kid is able to have friends from about 15 different communities within an hour's drive (+/-). It's enabled her to expand her circle in a way that she wouldn't have been able to just with HS. It's a big reason why she doesn't want to play she says.

But...let's be real...there's not so much economic diversity that we are talking about kids who can barely afford a pair of boots. I don't mean to stretch it that much. I get this may be an outlier for most.

Yeah but let's be honest, more often than not, the strongest HS players are coming from the more recognizable clubs and leagues. Don't get me wrong, there are definitely some kick ass players and teams that aren't part of the youth soccer alphabet soup-but they are far and few between. Most are former 2 club sport players that opted to play the other sport for club full time and only play soccer for school.
