I love the assumption of "if development was #1 objective" and then your argument points are not related to development but to everything else. Competition, facilities, social aspects, elitism etc. Then you add edge case anecdotal evidence. What a load of crap.

Reality is some players and families are driven by D1 placements, no matter the level. In the minority yes as most soccer families are pretty educationally focused, but there's plenty of them. Some might legit need the $. I know one kid who was obsessed by playing D1 and turned down opportunities to play for a few quality D3 academic schools that had pretty good soccer to play at a mediocre academic D1 that also had terrible D1 soccer.

Some parents can't admit that even to themselves. I think some also feel they have to justify the years of tremendous time and money to say their kid plays in college.

Enough with the elitism. Not every student can get into Yale and not every player can play for Stanford. If Wagner is the perfect for a student athlete then it's a win/win. What is should never be is a compromise on academics just to be able to play athletics .

Eric should be fined and suspended. How do you not plan in advance? Then you knowingly have parents drive up there? And Paul is OK with that?
