I have a '05 girl who was in CO. We, and our club, have had some passing contact with some area coaches due to a Combine she attended, but it's nothing serious as it's too early in my mind. That being said, after CO there has been contact made by a handful of coaches to our Club.

It does appear to be a situation where they were watching games, maybe specific players, and something piqued their interest while watching.

I know that's vague, but seems to not align with your above comment - and which was also my thinking before CO as well.
Every time my kid attends a tournament (Not ECNL or DA), they get tons of interest from lots of coaches. The rubber meets the road when you get to sign something with money involved that is not a payment by you to the coach or their clinic. Until you get sound offers, take EVERYTHING with a grain of salt. You will now receive oodles of interest letters to countless camps and clinics by various college coaches that are really interested in your kid (and every other kid that went to xyz tournament) and it will only cost you between $150-$750 for them to give your kid a solid look (and they will receive feedback)!!

PS - The same was true for my older ECNL kid .... and hear it is the same with DA/GDA from friends with kids in those rackets. Remember the college coaches have a license to print money from their "Prospect/ID Clinics" as long as they can get turnout, which they solicit mercilessly from dreamers at tournaments of all kinds.

100% true, therefore an informed family needs to be shrewd when attending, and treat any offers with both respect and skepticism.

So true. Coaches get the email lists and send emails to loads of players. They hope to hook in 100+ hopefuls when in reality they only are interested in maybe 15 of them.

first sign of actual interest is if your kid reaches out (or club coach) and they actually show up to watch you. If they don't even do that, they're not interested. Don't waste your money on their ID event unless you really, REALLY want the school and want to give it your last shot.

This does happen on occasion, but it probably doesn't happen with the "top" colleges, and certainly doesn't happen with 100 coaches watching a game.

First, "top" is vague and open to one's interpretations.

Second, we are interested only in colleges that align with her educational goals. If a TS poster considers that to be "top" is irrelevant.

Last, it doesn't matter their reasoning. Only that a series of colleges who prior to that event had had no contact, made contact after to the clubs about some of the players.

So the question is: What kinds of schools are these that show interest? Chances are they are not "top 20" colleges.

winnowing suggests the lists are long to begin with. This is the ego of parents. Your last statement is the truth and yet most parents want you to believe that their kids are "top". People think clubs and coaches are stupid. Clubs dont recommend kids to top programs for the sake of it. Too many rejections impacts credibility. There is a big downside to over recommending.

the good clubs are helping parents set realistic expectations and "refining" it to 100 schools is not realistic.

another coment that makes no sense on a soccer forum. Top is not vague at all in a soccer sense. UCLA,USC,UVA,Stanford,PSU,FSU,Duke,UNC are year in year out the best teams in womens college soccer. Im sure ive left out a couple and there are another 10 or so who in any given year are right there.

If you are primarily academically focused, thats cool, but most of the top programs are also excellent academically. The problem is most kids are not good enough soccer wise to play there.

That leads to parents saying...we are interested only in colleges that align with her educational goals. If a TS poster considers that to be "top" is irrelevant.

Those aren't schools we are realistically looking at. "Top" is a subjective term based on what each individual considers to prioritize. Not sure why that's hard to understand.

This thread has been talking about "top colleges", so wanted to know if the unsolicited interest was coming from "top colleges" or not.

All of them did .... ALL OF THEM. My daughter got emails from Penn State, Auburn, Nichols, St. Michaels, Columbia, Bentley, USC (Cal and S Carolina), Duke, Iona, Stony Brook, Siena, Western CT, Amherst .... the entire spectrum of good and bad academic schools, good and bad soccer programs, D1, 2, and 3, NAIA, schools on east coast, west coast and everywhere in between, well-known schools and ones I have never heard of ..... they are all selling their clinics. As another person posted, the only ones we paid any attention to were the ones from coaches that she had solicited prior to tournaments and that showed up for at least one of her games .... she picked the schools for academic reasons, emailed those coaches, and then paid attention tot he coaches that came to see her play and then contacted her or her coach .... and it was dually noted which coaches came for more than one game.

And these top schools recruit from YNT rosters/camps, and foreigners but still expect the player to show interest first. They will expect you to attend a camp or clinic. They will inquire about a teammate even though they came to see you. They do care about your grades.. They do not care about your w/l record. They do want you playing ECNL or GDA especially if you committed to them. They really like versatile players, if you are at a clinic/camp and they move your kid around the interest is real. They will show up at a practice or league game. They will show up at a HS game but really just to be seen by you and talk to you. If this happens you are in. Just dont mess up. You will know in 9th grade if there is interest. It is not uncommon for 100 coaches to attend a single game at an ecnl event. I cant see why gda would be any different. NL wont get 100 div 1 coaches to the entire event let alone 1 game.
