Makes sense.
How about the general field player. Which clubs developed those players over the last decade.

the YNTs have been awful for 4 cycles now and yet we have the same coaches Mark Carr and BJ Snow, picking the same core group of players.

Makes sense.
No, not insecure at all...

That creates a huge conflict of interest as Clubs use YNT call ups as marketing.
the decision makers are the same 3 people all the time and surprise surprise, they form opinions early and dont really change them. The inputs they get are from the same Club coaches who have little incentive to change opinions.
The system is flawed because there is no incentive to say, i was wrong. Look at the YNTs. Poor results and a very poor playing style and yet no real changes in personnel.
People dont understand. The USSF is NOT a place that the top coaches aspire to be a part of. Its a place where those that cant do better end up.
the USSF and the Club system is intertwined but they have VERY different and conflicting goals. The USSF cannot afford to rebuild all that Club infrastructure . the Clubs themselves do not benefit by being honest.
It a vicious cycle that shows no sign of getting any better. The GDA has so far failed because it is underpinned by Clubs who do not need to support it. The ECNL is a successful business. Both are poor developers of elite talent.

ignoring results for a minute, the most disturbing thing is HOW we play at YNT level. We have many talented athletes but we dont seem capable of molding them into a coherent TEAM because we dont seem to see the game well.
We are constantly promoting the next great player, as if they can carry the load, without really looking at how and what we teach.
I read things like Pugh played HS and she is great as justification of one path over another. its flawed.
bottom line is we dont have a pathway for our most promising talent. And we certainly dont have one that challenges them every year to get better to stay involved

One of the issues with our national team is that our players all grew up playing in different formations and with different standards as to what they were expected to do. This is part of what the DA is supposed to fix but they are failing at doing so.
For example, try finding a German youth academy that doesn't play a 4-2-3-1 these days. Regardless of the players they have, with rare exception they commit to that formation because that is the preferred formation of the national team. You can take just about any promising youth and stick him on the national team and he will play his position properly and they will instinctively know where their teammates should be on the field despite having never played with them before.

Failing to do so? It hasn't even been two years. Going to take a while to fix the mess in front of them.
