If you're not in a top league then HS accolades (All State, All Region etc) can help get your foot in a few more doors. After that you have to prove yourself to college coaches.

It's a different kind of fun, and for some it's not fun at all

HS is one of the few team left where anyone in the school that can make the team. You could actually play with some regular kids that are running around in $300 cleats and getting chauffeured around all day and night in imported SUVs to go play in some swanky so-called "high level" league. It would do some of these princesses good to hob-nob with the regular folks every once in a while.

Right, someone needs to tie my kid's boots. I'm sure I can get one of the common-folk to do it for her.

As adults I think it's easy to say that the things kids like about HS sports don't matter. But to the kids they DO matter, or at least to some of them. Playing with classmates you've known forever, swag, getting to leave school early, fans in the stands (not many, but certainly far more than club soccer), name in the paper etc. Deep runs into state finals can be a blast. It doesn't mean those kids that want to play for their schools care less about the sport than kids who don't care about HS soccer. They're still just as passionate and committed, just in a different way. As long as kids are playing and happy it's all good bro.

Do you really expect a coach sitting around in his wife-beater and boxers, 16-ouncer in hand and cheetos fingerprints around his crotch watching HS soccer?

Good luck with that approach. But, you get to link it on FB to see your li'l darlin', so that's what is important, right?
The current system aint working in soccer sparky ..... college soccer sucks too and would equate to an E league in world soccer leagues .... I guess the billion dollar NCAA world watching HS sports does pay off in is football and basketball .... likely where over 95% (if not more) of all NCAA revenues are generated. Tell Saban, Swinny, Krzyzewski they should all get a life. You must be a DA club owner or coach d|k. You are small potatoes in the sports world my friend, so get over yourself.

Do you really think Coach K is watching HS highlights and games on TV. Really?

Yes, the current system isn't working, sizzlechest. A new system has been tried to be initiated, but it won't work because parents would rather watch their kid on the local highlights....

Lol. It is a surprise that your super overpriced "system" that requires hundreds and hundreds players to pay top dollar for the privilege of being practice cones for a handful of players is not being enthusiastically embraced?

If anyone had bothered to speak to any of the practice cones, they would have had the information they needed that the cones were not impressed and they could have gone back to the drawing board.

Please. The system doesn't work for many reasons, not the least of which is there is no incentive for clubs to develop players, a US pro path isn't lucrative thus making college the driver, pay to play, massive geography (too much travel), and development is largely left up to clubs who you could say "vary" a lot in terms of the coaching skills.

On the boy's side, where HS has been banned for seven years now, more and more international players are taking college and MLS spots. So no, some families and players aren't as willing to give up HS because what is the end game? College ball, then a good job four years after that. The players who really want NT and a pro path generally are the ones willing to talk away from HS. They make up a fraction of youth soccer players yet we have an entire system designed around them. Not everyone wants to be a practice cone for the elite .5%
