Most parents want it because their kids want it. As has been hashed out a million times before HS has benefits GDA doesn't have and vice versa. Now players have options. Most of the conversations I've had about playing HS soccer is because, like myself, it's what you did growing up. We didn't have all these other options. Everyone talks about how great it was when they played, how much fun, what they learned, etc. There's no malice in that, we draw from our experiences (assuming they were positive), and want the same for our children.

Some are able to take a step back and realize the world changes; some can't.

Call it what you want. That's what everyone says "Oh, you can't play HS? That's so sad. That was when I was in my glory."

No one brings up anything going forward, only their past experiences. Which is normal, it's what we know and what we are comfortable with.

Not the OP but that wasn't a judgmental post, it was an accurate description of how different people look at progress, good and bad. Some are ok with the new changes and some cling to how things were in the past.

I would bet most middle school age kids, who have never played for their school, would prefer to be able to stick with their club teams and play 9-10 month season. These are the kids who are their soccer friends. It is the kids who have done the MS/HS soccer thing that see the value in the social aspect. Also parents see it as important. Especially parents who know their ECNL/DA level kid will go from being one of many in club to being the #1 stud for their school. Many really want that recognition locally and HS offers that. I would not ignore the vanity element to the HS decision.

please list the benefits that HS has that Club does not. whatever the end goal is, the better you are , the more options you have. This myth that because college is the end goal, the objective changes is nonsense

Not the op...Both leagues offer paths to the same end for girls, college. Every player has their own reasons as well as options based on geography
Even if HS isn't a factor (and it isn't for some players) and say a club like an Alby was your only GDA option, but you also had a PDA like ECNL club...what do you pick? Hopefully you pick the one with better coaching. Then you can do HS or train on your own in the fall. Another player may really want HS but knows the local GDA club is superior to the other local clubs so picks GDA.

GDA is different in that it's not yet proven in terms of better development or better placement. That may or may not change over time. BDA came out under different circumstances many more years ago, plus has the MLS component. It's much harder to land at a top college program without BDA, but in women's you still can. There's 100 more D1 teams and and far fewer international women taking spots.

the article makes very good points....HS can also be a very good marketing machine for you, its not a bad thing when newsday and channel 12 is there and they film and/or write up positives you did durring the game....where are the newspapers and channel 12 for club soccer kids?
