Yes, you do. You are leaving about 1/3 of equal or better players out just due to pride. Expand ECNL, and most if not all the GDA clubs would gladly walk. Right now, there's too many players with no viable place to go.

From elsewhere - the NW had already been bleeding.

Reign GDA started as a partnership between two youth clubs, Seattle United and Eastside FC. Seattle United left the partnership and joined ECNL last year. Now with Eastside abandoning Reign for GDA, Reign GDA looks dead in the water. All the top clubs in the Northwest are now part of ECNL.

Right now, there are too many viable places to go. youth soccer is watered down with way too many oversold, overpriced, supposedly top level spots for not enough players.

Disagree. There are other places to go, but not viable for all and not at a high level. GDA is here because of that reason alone.

nothing is high level when everything is high level.

But they had homes two years ago. If ECNL clubs pick players based on talent rather than loyalty then players will find homes in ECNL or NPL (because, truthfully, that's where some players from both ECNL and DA belong). The universe of players ins't expanding and the talent is spread too thin. Of course, that requires ECNL clubs to do some painful pruning.

Another solution is to keep a GDA like league but make it infinitely smaller and at little or no cost to players (subsidized by USSF). That's what USSF should have done in the first place but instead tried to steal ECNL's enchilada

We have a winner! You sir win the board today. Some "elite" or "high level" players just aren't and no badge on the sleeve will change that. Reshuffle the landscape back to what it was - ECNL, NPL and whatever else. Work with ECNL to identify and train top players rather than work against it. ECNL has issues no doubt, but many are workable. But USSF would need to swallow its pride.

You're joking right? Not fair??? USSF put out a garbage product with little thought to try to get more power and money on the girls side and they are reaping the effort and thought that they did not put into this. No reason to give up HS and pay a boat load of money to play really bad former NPL and lower teams.

No, you do not .... those players should go to existing ECNL clubs and earn spots of current players. Not everyone deserves a trophy or a spot on a "top" team. In fact, havent we seen with both ECNL and GDA that there are actually far fewer top teams than their used to be when just ECNL existed. GDA lost so their players need to try to make an ECNL team or play stay in whatever B league emerges. The point is to make one league very strong for top players not one top league with 4,000 teams so every little kid with shin guards has a team to play on in it.

GDA is there because lots of kids couldnt make their JV and varsity teams and had to show everyone how good they really were .... if GDA had a minimum bar, it could not have built more than 20 or so quality teams total.

ECNL must not have a minimum bar either, because now all they are doing is letting in former GDA clubs - aka today's announcement out of WA.

All GDA was shake up the Etch A Sketch. The same amount of sand is still inside.

Tough to draw a decent picture with so few grains of sand.

Reign's three teams are in 6th, 3rd and 4th (youngest to oldest). They're hardly basement dwellers.
