MLS will still continue to run their academies and offer free to play opportunities for our nation's best players. BDA was instrumental in getting the academy system off the ground, but now with MLS (and a growing USL league) on more stable ground, the pro leagues can run it on their own. USSF will no longer have to administer the league, and will simply send scouts to pro academies to pick YNT invites.

Players with no pro-potential will be stuck in the pay-to-play system - currently administered by US Youth Soccer and US Club Soccer. The end game being college scholarships.
So where will this leave GDA?

      Not fast but maybe furious.
Anyone with Thoughts on the upcoming season. Will nycfc leaving next year affect their motivation and play in the spring season Any clubs pick up new players that will make an impact, etc.

Apples and oranges. MLS is really more insignificant on the girls side. Look at the new clubs added, they're all non-MLS.

What you see and probably will continue to see in the coming weeks is that GDA clubs are leaving for ECNL and no ECNL clubs are leaving for GDA. Two years in a row. Not good.

GDA has always been on it's own. No pro club support and minimal support from USSF. GDA will fall long before BDA does. The better clubs are leaving and weaker ones are added. Some entire regions could disappear, leaving a hodgepodge of whatever is left?

And BDA won't really start to struggle unless MLS clubs pull out. MLS clubs are threatening but doing their own thing is no small task.

you are moving the goal posts to where the real issue is. better players do generate more money, but not for the people who are often responsible for developing them.

its amazing all the false crap and fake news being posted.
what does that have to do with the discussion. money is money. someone said better players do not generate money. They do.

poster meant there is no financial pay off for investing in developing a talented player for the clubs. Here individual players invest in their own development and can get sort of an indirect financial payoff by getting college money or perhaps helping get access to elite colleges.

You know, this really isn’t fair that the ECNL can just take all these clubs. Something should be done about this quickly!

I think GDA is stuck between a rock and a hard place.
                        1) Their product is too similar to the well established ECNL, and actually has the negative of not being able to offer HS soccer play.

                        2) GDA is still very much pay-to-play, more so than BDA which has MLS free academies on offer to top players. I believe that LA Galaxy is the only club that is free to play for girls.

                        3) GDA is going to have a hard time justifying selecting YNT players from the GDA only, when there truly are quality players playing in other leagues (ie. ECNL). And if there are players being selected from other leagues, then why would a player give up HS knowing that they still could get selected for YNT playing outside GDA?

                        4) Many MLS BDAs are signing players to home grown pro contracts, and the players are opting to skip college. There is no real viable pro path for women (Mallory Pugh and Lindsay Horan aside) - the money is just not there at the moment. For 99% of the girls playing high level soccer today, college scholarships are the end game.

                        Suggestions:

                        1) Shut down GDA.
                        2) Invest the money by running month long training camps in the month of July - set them up in 4/5 regions across the country. Scout the country and select the top players to attend and pay for everything. There should be no expense to the player.
                        3) Bring the best soccer minds to run the camp.
                        4) Select YNT players from these camps.

Need to expand ECNL if you are going to shut down GDA; and that ain't happening.

For the record, when GDA was announced there were a total of 35 ECNL clubs that moved over to GDA exclusively or decided to field teams in both leagues.

US Club Soccer currently runs ECNL.
US Youth Soccer is pushing their own girls national platform and they will gladly absorb GDA clubs into the fold.

No you don't. There aren't more players out there vs two years ago, let alone a plethora of top talent. In fact participation in youth soccer is declining. Players can be absorbed back into the current system based on what their skills are.
