GDA started of as a great idea in concept. I thought for sure it was the way to go. I do believe that many average players who chose to play GDA over HS ball really did improve by playing with the very strong players who joined as well. The problem is that those really strong players did not get better. Take a look at our players who have not been called back to NT camps since they began playing in the GDA Or those who were initially invited in the first year, after strong performances with their former clubs, many have not been invited back.
The minute they announced how large the league would be and who some of the clubs were the writing was on the wall - too big, too many players required to make it work but not enough talent to fill it. The departure of several top clubs after just one year was severe body blow that it hasn't recovered from. Letting in more poor quality clubs was not the solution.

Is what it is. They seem to be in business so on it goes.

It's all a business. Do your research and pick the best coaching + league that works for your kid. Then keep your head down and try and get through the year as best you can. Re-evaluate each spring, be willing to make changes if need be, hope for the best.

It is like running a gauntlet every year. Very rough version of the Camelot.

spin. the departure has zero to do with it. its a much bigger issue.

I disagree - when multiple good clubs say "peace out" it means something. They're listening to their customers. The market of kids willing to give up high school, especially those with serious talent, is much smaller than USSF estimated. The market is much more diluted than it was when they started BDA. Different target market too, plus little financial support. Yes there are obviously other issues but their departure was certainly an ominous one. Then, look at who they let in!

Nah The departure of Stars and PDA was HUGE. While Stars says they didn’t put their best players in GDA, we all know that all the girls who were in the NT pool, were all in GDA. PDA put their best players in as well. When they pulled out, the competitiveness of the league went with them.

You can say “spin” all you like, but you’re unimportant in the grand scheme of things

as we all are. the only person that is is important is my kid. Those teams being in or out had zero impact on her. too many people look to too many external factors. BTW, how many girls does PDA have in the NT pool? The kids on those teams have no better chance of success than any one else and the odds of success for others who stayed in the GDA did not change because those teams left.

If you think it did, then we disagree.

Kaz has no control of this, if NYCFC leave the BDA, they sure as **** are going leave GDA. The families that signed up for GDA don’t want to play ECNL, most left for their own legitimate reasons, and I can tell you that most families have no interest in H.S. Soccer, none.

what does it mean other than the customers they serviced wanted something different. So what? How does that impact kids who stayed in the GDA? it doesnt. your next comment makes no sense. Kids without serious talent should not be playing in either league, thats the point.

The market IS kids with average talent whose parents are willing to pay big sums of money for fancy uniforms, largely fake friends and the promise of college. The problemn is both leagues have the same target mkt. There are very few seriously talented kids.

PDA being in or our never entered into the mind of any intelligent parent making a choice about what was best for their kid. The letters of the league mean nothing.

Are you sure they wont want to play ECNL next year when they don't have a viable alternative? You are overestimating as you likely overestimated the quality of GDA. 2 years ago, ECNL players were granted a choice. What viable option do they have next year if GDA goes away? Plenty of ECNL clubs that offer great training and competition .... Even though you think it was, GDA was not magic in that regard!

this argument is stupid. the decisions are individual. OP told you they have no interest in HS soccer so the choice was ECNL and privates/do nothing OR full time. they chose full time with a coaching staff they believed in.

people should look at every individual decision as a family doing what they believe was best for them at the time. Thats it. The spin doctors trying to suggest some bigger meaning are just that.

We believe in Kaz and his coaches, wherever he goes we will follow. He has already told us that he will provide alternate training if families don’t want to play HS soccer, which would work for us. We are simply not that rah-rah-rah-go-go-go yea team!!!!
