if they want toplay year round, why not? that where teh USSF failed to see things correctly.

    1. clubs need to fill rosters
    2. there are not many really elite level player who stand to gain by committing year round AND want to do it. If im locked in to say Rutgers, why do i need to work year round to maybe get a call from Duke ?
    3. if the phone is not ringing, maybe i go tear round to see if it does

GDA is a thin top layer and a huge bottom layer. ECNL is a thin top layer, a lot fatter middle and a good sized bottom layer.

the top layers are still not big in either league

And? Both are to serve the masses and sign up customers regardless of the sales pitches. That much is clear.

I think the original poster was saying if your kid wants to skip HS soccer, why not stay with her current team and ask for training in the fall months, rather than ripping her away from her teammates? my daughter committed in the summer between her freshman and sophomore year in HS to a D1 school. She wanted to play HS but understood it would not help her towards her college aspirations, so she spoke to her HS coach and he was ok with her practicing 2 days a week with a younger boys team at our club. She attended her HS practices on those days but did not train. Everyone was happy, especially her college coach who told her she was impressed by her commitment to stay sharp

ok, but was that a top 20 team and is she a starter? Is she a YNT candidate? My only point is everyone IS different. Terms like D1, commitment time etc just dont translate well. All D1 is not equal. All commits are not the same.

          No disrespect intended

you do realize her HS coach letting her do that was not only highly unusual but also not allowed in some states? Most coaches would never tolerate such an arrangement; they want everyone there each and every practice. Some states require that you make your HS team your priority and you can't miss any HS events; a few don't allow any outside training in that sport during the HS season. Of course any player had the option of not doing HS if they didn't want to - and some did go that route. But not many. Its not eay to find a place to train but more importantly most want to play HS. If they didn't this wouldn't be such an issue.

the top player layer is thin but the league layers are extra plump. That's the issue. It's also supposed to be a pyramid but it isn't; I'm not even sure what shape you'd call it.

For the most part the shape resembles a middle to upper middle class pale pony tailed suburban kid with some exceptions.

My daughter did not want to play with a bunch of rec. players, no upside for her, for them yes, for her nope. So why should she lower herself, to play with your kid?

Great player, but a terrible clubmate, especially to the younger girls, no leadership whatsoever.

Its probably best. She would be shunned by her teammates and neither of you would be able to handle her not getting any post season awards. Enjoy playing at Siena!

It’s true, she was a terrible teammate, very selfish, and nasty to others, she had a black chip on her shoulder for sure.

Funny she never had a problem when she played for her ECNL team. Must have Been those GDA elitist parents who had a problem with her confidence.

I see where your looney tunes daughter gets her mentality from. Poor kid doesn’t know what she’s in for when she gets to college.
