not sure where this targeting thing came form. I said, for those who want to bash teams. tell us how YOUR kid did. Did not say anyone should bash them. it was tongue in cheek, but it would force people to think before posting such nonsense

These forums and posts have all become boring. All anyone does is bash other posters, teams, clubs, leagues, etc, etc.

Agree. Let's move on. What are the thoughts of splitting the 16 and 17 age group? Does it help or hurt?

Hurts around here. Widens the pond but there are no new fish so it will dilute the level of talent in that training group.

It helps clubs and USSF capture more bodies and dollars. It don't think it will help the players. Obviously it dilutes the talent even more (like it wasn't enough already). One of the few things DA did right was having the combined age groups. It really pushes the younger players who are thought to have more potential.

It can also push an older player if the younger players are stronger. Goes both ways. More players are competing for less spots. That is what strong players want but it is very hard to find and separating the age groups just makes it more difficult again.

Some just don’t realize that they are not cream but just a glass of sour milk.

Strong confident players value a strong training group so they can learn and execute higher level play and strategies at higher level speeds.

well what happens to kids who were in the separate u14 and separate u15 age groups who participated but now do not have a hom when all of a sudden there is a combined 16/17?
if thats what you want to do, then have a combined u14/15 also.

Call me sinical but I see it as a dollar grab. Most players who aren't good enough to make the older combined teams are of little interest to USSF. BDA clubs have held on to boys that fall short by having a B team that plays in another league (like EDP here). Good to stil try and give then a chance but then many still wouldn't make the team the following year. Quite simply they weren't good enough and probably would have been better off going ahead and moving down to the level where they belong. The point of DA is to develop the best talent. It's supposed to be the top the pyramid, not a square.

My kid plays for NYCFC, and she hates the combined practices, as she is older and stronger than the little 05/06 players, and is afraid to damage them. She gains NOTHING from that practice night, other than getting to boss around the younger girls.
