Looks like the LI teams aren't facing any stiff competition. What a waste of money. Enjoy your vacation DA Dummies.

NEWSS: The list of colleges attending was mostly D3. Not very impressive.

Because they're terrible so bvb they're matched with other poor quality teams. How many days of school are kids missing for that?

NEWSS hasn't had a strong college coach showing in about 5 years or so. It was usually treated as a warm-up for CASL, Disney and Sanford. Now that the landscape has shifted with the addition of GDA, coaches are spread thinner and in different directions. I read that newss is now a GDA sanctioned event (most likely thanks to PR), which is great! Give it a few years as a mixed GDA tourney and it could become a destination event.

Because everyone wants to be in NY Thanksgiving weekend? No. What it could be is a good regional event, which the system needs more of. Having teams and coaches fly all over the country to see each other - when most players will go to school closer to home - is a ridiculous waste of time and resources.

I think another issue can be the weather. You just don’t know what you’re going to get. It can snow and be in the 30s. Then what do teams do that travel here? One club came from Canada, another from Albany. For them, the weather would always be an improvement.

hahahaha, so NY is now a fair-weather soccer destination????

That's basically what I meant, a good regional event. If you got a bunch of teams from NE and Mid-Atlantic GDA & ECNL and a bunch of other strong teams from the area that play in other leagues, it may draw a decent amount of college coach attendance.

Disney is the same weekend so there's already that competition. Also, I think having it Thanksgiving weekend is an issue. Families, including college coaches just coming off their hectic fall season, want to be with family. It's a terrible and costly time to travel, even if you're driving. Do it the following weekend (this one coming up) and make sure every field is turf in case of bad weather.

Never going to happen. Basically, no one from other states want to deal with the NY traffic. To have a big showcase requires fields. That means going further east. For teams from NJ, and further south to come involves coming through Staten Island, and the Belt parkway. Clubs from the other direction still have to deal with the LIE.

LI isn't optimal due to it's location. That's why no tournament or showcase has really gotten big.
