Unfortunately we also don't have many options. You do the best you can to get your kid through it all.

we actually have many many many many options available (too many in my opinion). Just do your homework and find the right fit for your kid (and also ask what the kid wants) I'm sure you will be surprised to hear there answer.

At the end of the day, the odds of your kid becoming a "pro" soccer player is 1/10,000 (yes this is it). Knowing this, you and your kid should be realistic in your own potential.

I ask this in all seriousness:

Does anyone know of a single player/parent beyond U8 who thinks there kid is going to play pro? More importantly...why would any parent of a daughter WANT their kid to go pro...especially after dropping so much $$ during the the journey?

is this a serious question? Playing pro soccer can be a great springboard to a good job.

The pro sccer part is silly. the better your kid is, the more options she has ....PERIOD. Has nothing to do with whether a kid chooses apro route or not

In all seriousness I know people spending major $$$$$ on there kids (going to foreign countries for training and competition).

All these clubs are all telling us that there system is the best for developing soccer players, they pitch and sell there own brand of kool-aid and we are all happy to buy into it. why is it that many many many people are paying $3k, $4k and $5k for soccer tuition? is it because they think it will help there brat kid become doctors and lawyers?...its all kool-aid

there are many many many ways to "springboard" your self to a good job....it does not have to involve playing youth soccer.

i dont get your point at all. Im not saying anything more than its stupid to dismiss that avenue for some kids. For some kids, its a fantastic option for them - see the world, play a sport they love, get all sorts of experiences, then enter the workforce.

No idea why anyone would dismiss it

In fact your best bet is work hard in school, get good grades, go to a good school. Plenty of athletes ignore their education thinking that even if they don't go pro, sports will still help them get into a good school. Well, you're always an injury away from your career ending and you'll have many more coaches knocking on your door if your grades are good too.

Fact: almost no one on this board has a kid is going pro. Save your club money for a gap year or study abroad while in college. There's many ways to get those experiences that don't involve sports.

and almost no one will have a top brain surgeon, or lawyer, or scientist. What is your point? And what does money have to do with it. You do you and let others do them. Im responding to the posts that seem to dismiss professional soccer as a waste of time. It may well be for your kid, but not someone else

so why be an athlete at all then. Just go to school and spend all your time studying. Some of the nonsense here is incredible.

and for some it does. What is your point?

Your kid will never be a professional unless your ex husband pays the team to take her and pays her salary.
