Good luck with that. Most times parents are too afraid to speak up - worried their kid might lose PT or get a bad reference when a college coach calls. Unless you can get all the families to band together that definitely can happen. Some coaches/owners are just diks. Really the clubs should be telling USSF no, but that won't happen either. Being in the cup race is seen as more prestigious so clubs think it's good marketing for them

Why do only some of the gda clubs have to do this tournament and not others?

Never underestimate the idiocy and $ that exists in youth sports. Soccer is not alone - LAX, basketball etc all have some degree of it.

At least it's not ice hockey prices. I know hockey families that spent every weekend driving up and down the east coast for one game, flying across the country or to Canada for events that last a week (and they missed school the whole time) and their kids aren't even playing in college.

What everyone should be thinking about is, does my kid really want to play in college? Have I not listened to little clues that are telling me she is not as committed as you are...life is short, so make sure your child is truly living hers, and not yours.

It's performance based to try and give clubs "more meaningful competition" (USSFs words). In other words "We know for you top clubs your regional competition generally sucks so we'll have you fly around and play other so-called top clubs. Some of these so called top clubs aren't that good, but it's a great idea, right?!"

Why doesn't South shore have to do it? They are more competitive then some of the clubs that did have to participate.

Its not totally performance based. You must also be able to field a team at 4 age groups; U15, U16, U17, U18/19.

Hearing rumblings of players being suspended from GDA due to playing HS, is US Soccer finally cracking down on this? I thought it was common knowledge that several DA clubs are allowing this to slide via kind of a don’t ask don’t tell approach....

Depends - did her club suspend or USSF? Some clubs stick to the rules, especially outside of NE where GDA isn't struggling.

They don't have all the age groups. Plus, if USSF were smart they wouldn't have new players flying for one game - guaranteed to make some of them leave!

I hope they do. They should be consistent in terms of enforcing the rules. People make decisions based on these rules, so it's not really fair that some get to to do it and others cannot. Plus, it's stupid to try and play more on top of HS' ridiculous schedule as it leads to overuse injuries.

give it a break already. there's been no rumblings of suspension. it's so wide spread, get out of your bubble thinking its a regional problem. it's not.

if this were true what club(s) are you hearing rumbling from? stop the trolling. get over that your dd is not playing HS. next year, make a different choice so we are not subjected to hearing you complain about this any longer. from anonymous thread to anonymous thread. you're a real bore.

Others cannot? Any player that wants to play hs should do so. If your player is not playing HS and would like to...fix it

This wouldn’t happen on the boys side. Goes to show you what they really feel about girls soccer. It’s a shame.
