Ultimately, you need to do what's best for you. Play 4x/a year against superior teams and the rest against competitive teams? Or, play all your games against competitive teams?

The reality is the competition is the same except for those two so when you need to determine "WHY" you are choosing a league, that shouldn't be a factor.

I didn't know weed was now legal in NY. The competition isn't the same. In the NE ECNL is stronger.

Again, take away the top two in ECNL, and a few of the bottom (each league has them) it's a wash.

Sorry if the truth hurts, but I'm sure you'll get over it.

Yes, it's the top 2 clubs that make the difference.

How do they make a difference to YOUR child ? The reality is most play where its convenient. It tends to be the parents that are willing to travel distances that tilt the balance unless one club has a bigger area to recruit from because they dont have or restrict local competition ( see PDA and Stars)

Explore this a bit more and it tends to be the parents whose kids may be top 3 on a mediocre team who decide for whatever reason that its best to be player 5-15 on a "better" team who tilt the balance towards a destination team. Those people buy into the theories for whatever reason.

The reality is none of these teams are training and playing at such a high level that it is going to change the trajectory for most.

I can point to several kids over the years who are in College now who did not play on destination teams who are doing really well on the field. It all comes down to how committed your daughter is and what she chooses to put into it. Winning Club games is cool, and if thats the goal..have at it, but its not a necessity to becoming a great player.

Too many parents seem to think no adversity is good.

And when Stars and PDA were in GDA, they weren't running the table. All of the leagues have good teams and not so good teams. The top kids aren't playing in one league anymore.

Do whatever works for you and your family.

It would make a difference to my child because it gives her the opportunity to play against 2 really great teams multiple times a season. I've always believed that playing against tougher competition is good for development.

Fwiw, my kid does not play in ECNL or GDA.

                    Inconceivable.

My personal opinion is if we played every game to a tie, or a one-goal game, we are in the right level. Yes, even if a majority of those games were losses.

You keyed on a throw-away statement I made as not something integral to what my point was. Apologies for the confusing intent.
Even removing PDA and Stars, ECNL in the NE is much stronger than GDA. It’s not even close.

I get you have a kid not on those teams and the reality bits a little, but it's OK. Really, as long as you are happy that's what matters. Just have the knowledge you can toss 75% of all the teams in the two leagues into a hat and they'd all look the same.

Nothing wrong with that. Other than possibly a little ding to your pride...

Agree, especially now that Albertson is gone. Remove FSA and there’s not an overall weak club in the bunch. Sure, a weak year here or there, but not an overall weak club. Can you say that about GDA?
What’s interesting is FSA would be competitive in the GDA. They consistently lose, but not at the consistent -7 to -9 level like several of the GDA teams. At the very least they’d be mid table in that league. What does that tell you about the difference between the two leagues?

Looking over the results from last year, there were a lot of poor teams in ECNL. Just as many....like...record-wise they looked like that disaster Empire in GDA last year. Good thing teams like that get kicked out of GDA. They remain in ECNL.

Where are you seeing last year's results? ECNL takes down prior year results at the start of a new season.

I know PDA was trying to run both GDA and ECNL, can't remember about Stars. As big as PDA is, of course the talent was split. Some kids didn't want one or the other for their own reasons. With PDA, Stars and now NYCFC gone NE GDA is weaker than ever. At least they booted Alby and Empire
