Why is the senior team center across the street considered off limits? Could the girls teams not practice there, considering they'd be using the fields in the afternoon/evenings and not really competing with the mens team who train during the day?
One would think, but NYCFC is partially the problem. Although CFG they promote the women’s game in England, here not so much this year. Last year was much better, they have forgotten about the girls that wear their uniforms, and who for the most part support the team.
Really I know it would never happen but just wondered was this ever proposed and what the response was.
Only 3 people would know, not me, but I will gladly support such a move FYI. Actually, they are hard pressed to find a stadium deal for the 1st team, doubt they have any time or resources for youth teams, especially the girls academy.
GDA looks bad on all its own. Many feel they were sold a defective product, yet as someone said a lot of this was predicted. USSF had different ways they could have rolled this out
- The obvious mistake was not doing GDA when they started BDA. That left the door open for ECNL. An impetus to finally start it was the NT lawsuit about unequal treatment and everyone knew it.
- Could have started with the younger players, taught them how they want players to be trained, prove themselves, and build from there. Too many players in the heart of ECNL - the HS/recruiting years - weren't willing to take a chance on something new. If they did U12-U15 then there's also no HS decision to be made. Get them in the system young and make it so good they don't want to leave.
- Could have started with 1-2 regions (CA, TX preferably) and proven themselves. If you create demand then others want to join, clubs and players alike
- They underestimated the pull of HS soccer for girls. They assumed everyone would flock over like with the boys. But when BDA started there wasn't an ECNL-like competitor offering what players were perfectly happy with.
- They blew it with the HS rule by first not allowing it, then allowing it, then pulling it again this year. Not only do they look like buffoons but allowing it last year left it ripe for abuse. It ignited a lot of controversy, and they still haven't sufficiently squashed the abuse.
- Allowed too many poor quality clubs in the system. Then once several top national clubs left they backfilled with even weaker ones. You can't claim to be all about quality and have clubs like Empire in the system
- Put too much emphasis on the NT track. The vast majority of players know they're not NT material and only care about college. There's also no pro path that girls care about like there is in BDA.
- Copied BDA. There are clear issues with BDA and they could have used this chance to do something different. Copy/paste isn't always the best way to go.
- Should have made more of an effort to reduce costs. There are no free MLS clubs to play for and the fees at most clubs are the same as or only somewhat lower than ECNL. Most soccer families can afford the small price difference if they think their other options better fit their needs. Clubs can only do so much to lower fees; USSF could have done more to subsidize
- Getting rid of the organizational head less than a year after roll out also isn't a good look
Any one point isn't necessarily fatal but in combination it potentially is. The patient can still recover. But they have to show people something the rest of this year or you're going to see more clubs and players leave. Clubs are businesses - they'll do what their customers want. Granted it's only rumors, but if more solid clubs like NYCFC or NEFC were to leave? The system can't sustain many more body blows.
the sad part is both sides dont get it. Both leagues are bad. GDA talked about creating a product for the more committed player and failed for a variety of reasons. ECNL continue to try and sell you on their product being elite.
Both are bad.
The sad reality is that there is no product for the really top end female player. In other countries, that product is a team WITH a professional endgame. That ensures that the players they invest in have REAL talent/potential in the eyes of those that matter. Here the teams have no agenda other than your checks. So players of vastly varied abilities are lumped together , trained alongside each other and to justify the costs, told they are elite.
The reason the ECNL is the most appealing IS because it places the fewest restrictions on its player and has the most slots. ie it gives more and more kids the chance to call themselves elite players and amazing young women.
GDA is also strangled by the very same ECNL Clubs because to them, its a fight for dollars. its not a joint quest in making sure every player gets what is right for them.
its a truly sad , crabs in a basket, situation that has no obvious solutions and the kids are the ones who suffer. The funny thing about that is no one sees it UNTIL we play other countries. Why? because its all relative. The poor soccer we play here works in our bubble because we are essentially drawing ffrom the same pool . However, if you look closer, the College teams who are more successful - FSU, UCLA, Stanford, WVU, South Carolina etc and yes, even UNC are now doing it with foreign talent in key roles. They are better players than us. Sure we are tough , gritty and have tha will to win, but the technical and tactical flair at many top programs has been outsourced because we just are not producing it in volume.
these petty battles will continue because on the one hand you have ego and on the other $$$$ but the game is the loser her and it will continue to be.
So yeah, go back to arguing which league is the best. its like being the tallest dwarf in the circus ...no offence intended

Less is more, especially when you write something, give me something remotely original.
Also, since the world is probably going to end soon, I will answer any questions about the NYCFC GDA, just be polite and I will offer honest pines...

Hi NYCFCDA10
I just got a text message that you were answering questions on this site. I too have a pretty good understanding of the things that are going on with the 2 clubs. Your assessment of the WC feelings for the GDA are off, but I can understand why you may feel that way.
1. To begin with, NYCFC coaches are actually employed by World Class Soccer Camps, the same company that supplies the coaches for, you guessed it, World Class FC. Ask any of the coaches at both clubs who their boss is, and you will get the same answer. To say they hate each other is incorrect.
2. Many families who have players on the GDA team, also have kids on WC teams too
3. World Class FC celebrates the successes of players who have left the program and gone to the GDA. Check out some of the tweets recently. Most players on the NYCFC teams were developed by our club
4. On the younger teams, many of the NYCFC girls sit on the sidelines with their old teams to support them as do the WC girls at DA games I know your daughter is older, so you don’t see that
5. WCFC has some pretty decent teams, we also have some teams that struggle as many girls did leave our program to go to the GDA in those age groups. We were hit hard last year but we were able to find some really great players who worked hard to get the teams backup to the ECNL level this year. That being said WCFC is an ECNL club that will put the best players on their ECNL teams.
While things may seem tense, I will assure you that the people who run WC want what is best for all its players. They do not make a profit on the club and do not have kids in the program. I would suggest reaching out to us at the info@wcsocceracademy.org email address if you have questions

Pick your poison. Really, pick the best coaching and fit for your kid, plug your nose and swim through the sludge to the other side.

If only USSF had followed that sentiment. They bit off more than they can chew. If they'd kept it simpler and smaller the quality would have been better. Create the demand and others will want in.
