Why is it so hard for many to comprehend that some kids just don't want to get involved with that type of social event? They have fun in other ways? Is there something wrong with that?
it is fine - all good. not every ecnl kid plays HS and some GDA kids play HS, Just do what you do. No one really cares too much except a few people trying to make a living through youth soccer.

Could you get lucky and your kid gets spotted while a coach is watching another kid, yes, but it's very unlikely
I know almost nothing about today's recruiting landscape since my time way, way, WAY long ago. So, with that in mind....

I have a '05 girl who was in CO. We, and our club, have had some passing contact with some area coaches due to a Combine she attended, but it's nothing serious as it's too early in my mind. That being said, after CO there has been contact made by a handful of coaches to our Club.

It does appear to be a situation where they were watching games, maybe specific players, and something piqued their interest while watching.

I know that's vague, but seems to not align with your above comment - and which was also my thinking before CO as well.

Judging by the dozens of people on TS who are incredulous that kids don't want to play HS, I'd say it's a little bit more than just that.

I think it would not be smart for a player to not proactively contact their programs of interest. 95 percent of the information available about recruiting says to use that process
The chances of making a successful match randomly seem pretty remote on both ends.

that is probably the same person over and over. Do you care what another player does? Does anyone else on your team care what your player does? didn't think so.

That will take place, but not yet. As she's started to look at what she wants to do for her career, that will lead her to her education. Then we'll align that with school she may want to/could play for. We used this year as a 'get to know the lay of the land' scenario, so to speak.

My point is I got the impression there are coaches out there, apparently a few dozen, who reached out to the Club to get information on certain players. Most of those, I assume, were older, but I won't claim to know.

Nah, and you are right. I just get tweaked some days with the constant barrage of negativity...

if we are talking about the top schools, maybe 20 or so. Its all word of mouth. Its a tiny universe. If your kid is part of it, you know.

They can't go see everyone who contacts them. They don't window shop. a player might catch their eye while they're watching a game but for the most part they're looking at who is on their list. They don't want to waste too much effort on a player that isn't interested in their program (if they were interested they should have reached out right?).
this part is not really true with respect to elite talent. Its probably true for most. However, top programs =/= interested in most kids. Thats the disconnect.

                    1. there are not 100 top schools
                    2. the top ones dont operate like the rest
                    3. their list is not made up of kids who reach out. Its made up of kids they want
                    4. Clubs are constantly recommending their best players to coaches
                    5. most established club DoCs and some coaches have long term relationships with the best schools. They have credibility with them. So when DoC calls UCLA and says this kid would be ideal for you, they come watch.

Lol. Are kids or parents that are "part of it" on TS all the time carrying on about how they are part of it?

Am hearing that some of the better 03 and 04 players are leaving the NYCFC/WC to play for other DA clubs, ugh... I knew this would happen, and it’s really unfortunate, but that is youth soccer, no matter the league, club or team. Families make choices, and they all have great reasons for their motivations, so what can't we just wish these families good luck, and hope to see them at a college game some day, is that so hard???

Youth soccer. Every year brings a new circus. Why would this year be any different? Next year will doubt be more of the same. One day at a time.

Which is why the poster said the lists are winnowed down to the ones they're most interested in. Top programs reject hundreds of kids who want to play there. There aren't many players around here that are sought by UCLA, Stanford etc.
