do you think executing "high level" play = winning? I ask, because it seems that winning is your measure here. There is a big disconnect here between maximizing results via tactics (in game coaching) and developing players.

This is the NY GDA forum. why dont you go and look at the last 2 graduating classes from NY GDAs and look at the top players. How many? Did they come from winning teams? are they playing at a high level now in College? are any playing at an even higher level?

To me, there are the readily available data points that people ignore.

Best I can tell LI ecnl and gda is pretty flawed across the board with some stand out talents. If an attractive situation arose on LI it would quickly attract talent. As it stands, there is not one obvious top club out there not tarnished in some way.

Last year was the first graduating GDA class and they ALL were developed elsewhere. One year of GDA wasn't going to change them that much, especially at some of the garbage clubs around here. This year's graduating class will have mostly been developed elsewhere.

If LI had 1 GDA club and 2 ECNL clubs (if even that) then it would be a different story.

I was at a college ID camp at a top NE school and was speaking with a dad from Orange County, who told me that their HS team has girls who are committed to top schools. He said the top 11 girls all play for different club teams ( ECNL and others). He said there are so many good teams that you do not need to play ECNL or GDA. It is clearly a depth problem.

Lol. Would love to hear what worthy clubs would deserve that exclusive designation?

development is an ongoing process. GDA was part of that. and in many cases the coaching staffs were the same. All the GDA did was allow them to spend more time with players.

i dont see why thats a problem. my daughter did not play Club soccer to win games. Played to get better. Losing tends to offer better teaching moments than winning does.

I always take any comment about Top schools with a pinch of salt as there are maybe 20 MAX if soccer is the measuring stick. Those schools typically do not recruit much outside the mainstream for a reason.

the point is it doesn't matte if doing it right is the priority. The best locations should be based on geography/ wide access. We all know it isnt

So they can ramp up the costs even more? No thanks. At least there is some competitive pressure on the outrageous costs. Can only imagine what the one gda club would charge. Haven't we already excluded enough players already?

again, if this was being done properly, they wouldn't charge more. In fact probably less

There is zero incentive for that. Zero.

On the boys side they now will allow solidarity payments to free mls clubs that find, develop and sell players. Sorry, but the market for buying up female soccer talent is weak at best. Money on girls side comes from the families if the players, the richer the better. That is precisely why youth sports like girls soccer have developed as they have.

I’m here in CO (not a NY parent) and from whatI see the biggest differentiator from good teams from the pack is depth. 11v11 for the most part games are competitive. However when subs start rolling there is a noticeable drop-off on some teams, and the best teams’ quality remains.

Leads to some credence to the “too many teams in the area” theory.

Also worth noting most teams out west travel further than east
