If you're league consists only of NYCFC and Fury and then Oakwood, how are they going to get game time within reason? These arent MLS teams theyre girls teams with tuition. They dont have a team bus taking them to montreal or maryland and most people wouldnt want their 15 year old girl traveling with a bunch of soccer coaches, anyway.
Yes, two teams would have been all players of the most excellent level and they could have scrimmaged each other every week in some superstar elite soccer version of the globetrotters vs the washington generals.
IMO the issue is that ECNL and GDA are not one league. That is the only way you can reduce total teams, travel and cost. We'd have a really good metro area league if it was all under one body. At its heart it is all because of $$$. Leagues and teams put their marketplace position at the highest importance. Thats why we will have GDA, ECNL, ECNL2, NPL, EDP, LIJSL, NYPL, Metro, NYCSL and on and on...
