It's a business. There is no real money to be made in women's soccer and for girls the goal is college, not a pro path. Even if it breaks even financially (probably given what they charge) it still consumes resources and their bread and butter is the men's side. Maybe, just maybe, it could have survived if GDA was kicking butt, but it isn't. if more MLS clubs had seen a future in it they would have gotten involved as well.
you hit on the difference tho. the WNBA is a money loser. When a sport is part of the culture, people who can afford to, do the right thing because it creates value in other soft areas.
Only thing you need to know about the MC Women’s team is they went to participate in an ECNL national event last year, and ignored us completely, that my friend is all you needed to know. Bunch of money hungry oil men running this show...
NYCFC NEVER supported it. The media relations head was the same person who is a huge part of WCFC !! Never understood why people assumed they did. We saw CR at teh beginning of the year and that was that. I never saw a senior NYCFC person at a game.
They did Kaz a favor by lending the name. Now they see the potential collateral damage by having the brand associated with this product has risks.
Its a horrendous fit for any pro club. they dont get to "keep" the players they develop so why do it ?
Like someone said it seemed most MLS clubs concluded the same (no benefit) so never entered the fray to begin with. It's possible some took a wait and see approach, knowing they could easily enter later if it took off. But it definitely hasn't taken off.
Mind you, I am not blaming the ladies, they probably had to go to the ECNL thing because they were actually paying them, something that they have to do to augment their crappy salaries.
Nonsense. Man City ladies are well paid relative to female soccer players in general. They went as part of the International event that the ECNL jumped on marketing wise.
There is no MLS support for women's soccer with a good reason - other than the WNT there is no money to be made in women's soccer in the US. MLS clubs also don't have the deep pockets that a club like MC has. If USSF wants a program they're going to have to fund more of it themselves rather than rely on for-profit clubs and parents cover the tab.
Rubbish again. Arthur Blank is worth billions as is Bob Kraft. The way MLS is structured PREVENTS aggressive owners from spending money. the US sports network is largely based on controlling player costs using complex caps and structures. Its designed to make steady money for owners and to protect them all from each other ( $$ competition)
if you let Blank spend his money, other owners would have to compete or sell to someone who want to
My daughter is attending Penn State this fall, and she was very happy with the training she received from Kaz and Fredy, they are great trainers and better people.
The way I see it is that if your kid is committed, you just need to find a home for her where she will get the training and challenges she needs until she is off to college. If your daughter is actively being recruited, staying with Kaz and crew is your best option in ECNL. If your daughter is younger and came from World Class, you will be offered a spot somewhere in their organization. If she is not from WC but is in the top half of her team. She will also be offered a spot. If she isn’t, you should be actively looking into other options

If your not making WCFC, you are not making PDA so I would say Matchfit or CFC. Penn Fusion is pretty far, but also a good option. Not sure they will stay in GDA but the training is always top notched there
I guess. No offense but these leagues are no longer a sure fire home to strong talent. Some but lots of lower level play.
I guess if the college coaches want be sure their recruits have disposable income, they are in the right place.
if you look at the landscape of womens college soccer, parents intentionally know so little about the money part.for example, how many full scholarship players does Duke have ? or Villanova ? Disposable income can often be the reason one player is picked from two equivalent players. disposable income IS a huge part of the College decision. Talent is only important for the players you are counting on. Once you have given out the $$ to those, the decision tree changes.

CFC won't be an option for many - you're going with evening commute traffic well into CT. they also have absurdly huge rosters already
