Mind you, I am not blaming the ladies, they probably had to go to the ECNL thing because they were actually paying them, something that they have to do to augment their crappy salaries.

The USA is a huge market for women's soccer (much larger than UK), with a top rated women's NT. Why would the money hungry oil men invest in the women's program in the UK, and shutter the US women's program? Seems odd to me.

That should have been your red flag right there

GDA hasn't lived up to expectations (and some didn't expect much to begin with). Several top clubs already went back to ECNL. It doesn't make sense for NYCFC to stay in the league if there are few rewards. Nor will they go to ECNL when there's WC. They're a men's professional club, not a girls pay to play club.

Call it a failed experiment. At least they gave it shot. Almost no other MLS clubs did.

We did not know in time, we joined over the summer, but found out after a couple of games, once I got to know some of the parents. Like I said we are happy, as the training is far superior to NYSC, and the parents here are welcoming.

Nor will they go to ECNL, not so sure about that, I heard a rumor that they will, and move to other fields, that would be crazy.

There is no MLS support for women's soccer with a good reason - other than the WNT there is no money to be made in women's soccer in the US. MLS clubs also don't have the deep pockets that a club like MC has. If USSF wants a program they're going to have to fund more of it themselves rather than rely on for-profit clubs and parents cover the tab.

Agreed. Not much incentive to move from ECNL to GDA - as they are perceived to be very similar.

If USSF wants to make soccer more accessible to girls, they should have provided scholarships to help offset the costs to the parents/clubs. Let's face it, ECNL is a rich kid's league that only addresses a small segment of the playing population.

youth sports in general are so messed up now. Re engineered to maximize the dollars extracted from families. True for so many sports.

And School sports should be one avenue left where lower income players can thrive but even they are polluted by club sports. the club kids take the roster spots and kick the non club athletes to the curb. youth sports are now thoroughly corrupted by money.

The monetization of youth sports started well before General Bonespurs came into office.

My kid is not on that team but I think most people generally just hoped that NYCFC would increase their support for girls soccer and that Red Bulls would follow and that girls soccer in general would benefit.

I guess it shouldn't be a surprise though, the CFG is a crappy organization, lead by crappy people and the idea they'd ever put a dollar towards a girls program was naive.
NYCFC NEVER supported it. The media relations head was the same person who is a huge part of WCFC !! Never understood why people assumed they did. We saw CR at teh beginning of the year and that was that. I never saw a senior NYCFC person at a game.

They did Kaz a favor by lending the name. Now they see the potential collateral damage by having the brand associated with this product has risks.

Its a horrendous fit for any pro club. they dont get to "keep" the players they develop so why do it ?

Yeah I don't see any way you can reign it in. College coaches certainly don't mind all the showcases and events that make their recruiting easier.
