GDA hasn't lived up to expectations (and some didn't expect much to begin with). Several top clubs already went back to ECNL. It doesn't make sense for NYCFC to stay in the league if there are few rewards. Nor will they go to ECNL when there's WC. They're a men's professional club, not a girls pay to play club.
Call it a failed experiment. At least they gave it shot. Almost no other MLS clubs did.

MLS clubs also don't have the deep pockets that a club like MC has. If USSF wants a program they're going to have to fund more of it themselves rather than rely on for-profit clubs and parents cover the tab.
If USSF wants to make soccer more accessible to girls, they should have provided scholarships to help offset the costs to the parents/clubs. Let's face it, ECNL is a rich kid's league that only addresses a small segment of the playing population.

youth sports in general are so messed up now. Re engineered to maximize the dollars extracted from families. True for so many sports.
And School sports should be one avenue left where lower income players can thrive but even they are polluted by club sports. the club kids take the roster spots and kick the non club athletes to the curb. youth sports are now thoroughly corrupted by money.

I guess it shouldn't be a surprise though, the CFG is a crappy organization, lead by crappy people and the idea they'd ever put a dollar towards a girls program was naive.
They did Kaz a favor by lending the name. Now they see the potential collateral damage by having the brand associated with this product has risks.
Its a horrendous fit for any pro club. they dont get to "keep" the players they develop so why do it ?
